Overview
A mid-sized, privately-owned CPA and advisory firm is seeking a full-time Accounting Technician to maintain professional relationships with business clients and perform day-to-day bookkeeping duties for multiple accounts. This role is primarily hybrid but fully remote candidates with strong qualifications will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Accurately code transactions across multiple dimensions (e.g., account, class, customer/funder, project/sub-customer, division/location) with proper descriptive memos.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and other financial accounts; verify source documents support business purpose and correct coding.
- Maintain clean bank feeds and resolve issues such as duplicate entries, unmatched items, missing payee details, and feed disconnects.
- Assist with month-end close activities including updating checklists and preparing routine journal entries.
- Support accounts payable processes: enter bills, maintain vendor records, route for approval, and prepare payment batches.
- Support accounts receivable processes: generate invoices, apply payments, and assist with aging follow-up.
- Assist with posting payroll entries and reconciling payroll clearing accounts.
- Gather and organize information for compliance-related tasks such as 1099 and sales tax support.
- Maintain strong documentation and audit trails by attaching invoices/receipts, organizing client folders, and following naming conventions.
- Use firm tools and templates consistently and contribute to process improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Client Service Expectations
- Communicate professionally and responsively with clients and internal team members.
- Acknowledge requests promptly, follow up on missing items, and escalate urgent issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to standards for secure handling of client data.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; accounting coursework or certificate preferred.
- Minimum 2 years bookkeeping or accounting support experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of Microsoft Excel experience required.
- 2+ years experience with QuickBooks Online preferred.
- Solid understanding of core bookkeeping functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and general ledger coding.
- Familiarity with payroll and sales tax functions is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while balancing competing priorities.
