Overview
A well-established heavy civil construction firm headquartered in Houston, TX, is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to join their growing finance team. The organization has delivered over $2.8 billion in infrastructure projects across the Southern United States since 1987, specializing in highways, bridges, water systems, and large-scale site development.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle including invoice processing, approvals, and payments
- Ensure timely and accurate vendor payments and expense reimbursements
- Reconcile accounts payable subledger with the general ledger and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain vendor relationships and address inquiries or disputes
- Enforce internal controls and support audit compliance
- Identify and implement process improvements and enhancements to AP systems
- Prepare accounts payable aging reports and assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Mentor junior staff and review their work for accuracy
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Knowledge of finance and accounting principles, including journal entries
- Experience processing and reconciling expense reports accurately and efficiently
- Strong analytical skills to identify financial discrepancies and ensure accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with accounting software and tools; experience with ERP systems is a plus
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with teams and vendors
- Previous experience in accounts payable, finance, or related roles is desirable
