Overview

This role involves serving as the Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) to provide strategic oversight and management of revenue cycle operations. The position focuses on improving accounts receivable, cash acceleration, and net revenue through operational excellence and a metrics-driven culture. The director will analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) regularly and leverage data to support management decision-making, performance monitoring, and future planning.

The director acts as the internal revenue cycle liaison for hospital leadership, addressing stakeholder needs and supporting revenue cycle initiatives. Collaboration with hospital leadership ensures understanding of revenue cycle processes and financial performance, including denial trends and analysis. The role includes developing action plans for metrics that do not meet goals and facilitating regular onsite meetings with regional leaders to report financial performance, opportunities, training, and improvement plans.

Responsibilities

  • Manage activities and responsibilities across various revenue cycle functions.
  • Develop broader goals and objectives aligned with organizational needs, ensuring continuous improvement in quality, cost-effectiveness, customer satisfaction, and resource utilization.
  • Create and maintain in-depth knowledge of revenue cycle principles, practices, procedures, contractual compliance, and internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for timely and accurate claims submission and patient statement issuance.
  • Evaluate and identify needs for partnerships such as outsourcing, collections, underpayment recovery, vendors, and eligibility services.
  • Own revenue cycle reporting and provide continuous monitoring and active management of all revenue cycle processes.
  • Partner with leadership, finance teams, and vendors to align revenue cycle efforts with organizational needs.
  • Develop work plans based on hypothesis-driven problem solving and clear project objectives and milestones.
  • Create compelling communications to engage and motivate clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead project teams by managing priorities, workflow, deliverables, and anticipating roadblocks.
  • Foster a positive team environment, maintain communication best practices, and monitor team morale.
  • Champion professional development through coaching and timely feedback.
  • Manage and develop team talent to achieve goals.
  • Develop and execute business initiatives and roadmaps, including practice management system implementations, business office consolidations, and supporting technology implementations.
  • Directly manage teams including front-line staff, managers, and other directors.
  • Provide guidance to teams to meet goals in accordance with policies.
  • Recommend changes to policies or operating models affecting revenue cycle or supporting organizations.
  • Coordinate activities across sections or departments with responsibility for costs, methods, and employees.
  • Interact frequently with team leaders, customers, functional peers, and senior management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, establishing goals to meet objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in technology implementation, product or program management.
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of revenue cycle management experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading teams, including coaching and development.
  • Experience participating in board or senior leadership level meetings.
  • Willingness to travel 30-45%.
