Overview

This role will establish and lead revenue accounting and customer billing operations as the organization scales. You will own revenue accounting integrity across contract terms, underlying transaction data, invoicing, revenue recognition, month-end close, and audit-ready reporting.

A key focus is building a scalable workflow from metered usage to invoicing and collections. You will improve systems, data flows, and controls that support accurate invoice generation and ensure billing information reliably feeds into the general ledger, while maintaining a high standard for accuracy and customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute revenue-related month-end and audit readiness activities, including:
    • Preparing revenue schedules
    • Booking revenue journal entries
    • Reconciling revenue-related GL accounts
  • Perform detailed contract review and analysis for non-standard arrangements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment in accordance with ASC 606, including thorough documentation of conclusions.
  • Own customer billing end-to-end, including:
    • Validating usage and contract data
    • Issuing accurate and timely invoices and credits
    • Resolving billing exceptions
  • Modernize revenue accounting operations—from billing through recognition and collections—with scalability and automation in mind.
  • Maintain and evolve the revenue recognition policy across a growing and diversifying product portfolio.
  • Partner cross-functionally to close process gaps, improve customer experience, and increase billing and revenue accounting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide clear guidance and communication to Accounting and business partners, with a practical approach to operational issue resolution.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs, process documentation, and supporting materials to enable strong controls, audit readiness, and repeatable execution.
  • Support external audits by preparing PBC schedules and responding to auditor inquiries related to revenue.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a revenue accounting or revenue operations role in a high-growth SaaS environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in ASC 606, including experience recognizing revenue in a usage-based or consumption-based billing model.
  • Ability to translate technical conclusions into practical product, contract, billing, data, and operating requirements.
  • Demonstrated ownership of an end-to-end billing or order-to-cash process, not just accounting entries.
  • Proven ability to build and scale revenue accounting processes (close, reconciliations, controls) in a high-growth environment.
  • Highly technical approach to automation: comfortable working directly with underlying data and using modern tools and AI to reduce manual processes and improve reliability.
  • Thrives in ambiguity and can design scalable processes and systems from scratch.
  • Persistent and resourceful when issues don’t reconcile or answers don’t make sense.
  • Moves fast with precision; thrives in environments requiring clarity, accountability, and urgency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting audit readiness for revenue processes at a SaaS organization.
