Job Description

The Lead Business Insights Specialist serves as an advisor to business leaders and stakeholders by providing comprehensive analytical support and interpreting complex data and business intelligence outcomes. This role generates multidimensional insights that drive business growth and value, partnering with business leaders to present or develop appropriate insights, including supporting collateral and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for significant business areas with cross-business or enterprise-wide impact
  • Apply enterprise domain and specialized knowledge at business, regulatory, and industry levels
  • Lead and complete complex initiatives requiring specialist knowledge and cross-functional integration
  • Engage with senior and executive management
  • Focus on longer-range planning (12 months or more) for the functional area
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interact with all hierarchy levels up to executive leaders and external vendors
  • Act as a subject matter expert within the Credit Risk Analytics risk management department for portfolio-defined workstreams related to quarterly Expected Credit Loss (ECL) and Provision for Credit Loss (PCL) allowance calculations
  • Advise Credit Risk executives and process partners on strategy, design, enhancement, and execution of quarterly IFRS9 and CECL credit allowance models
  • Participate in projects from concept through delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance and understanding business impacts
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, stakeholders, business partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure an integrated and forward-looking approach to credit allowance processes
  • Lead interpretation of complex business issues, generate insights, and identify opportunities for business growth
  • Present insights and recommended actions to stakeholders using appropriate visualization and presentation techniques
  • Translate business requirements into analytics and reporting needs
  • Manage stakeholder relationships to influence and persuade effectively
  • Escalate data or process issues and recommend resolutions
  • Provide day-to-day analytics support and delivery
  • Represent the functional area as a business insights and analytics expert
  • Synthesize complex information into actionable insights and strategies
  • Build business requirements and facilitate project execution
  • Collaborate on business challenges and deliver fact-based analytical advice aligned with strategy
  • Identify business growth opportunities through use cases and value drivers
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to interpret and present data clearly
  • Work with business teams and analytics hubs to fulfill analytics demand
  • Provide explanations for data anomalies and outliers
  • Train business users on integrating analytics into decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, including financial controls and governance
  • Lead or facilitate remediation plans addressing performance, risk, or governance issues
  • Maintain relationships across business lines and control functions ensuring alignment with enterprise and regulatory requirements
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and assess impacts
  • Promote a culture of risk management and control aligned with risk appetite
  • Participate as a team member supporting a positive work environment and timely communication
  • Provide thought leadership and share industry knowledge
  • Engage in personal performance management and development activities
  • Mentor others and contribute to team skill development
  • Foster productive relationships with internal and external partners
  • Support a fair, positive, and equitable work environment

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, physics, engineering, finance, computer science)
  • Graduate degree preferred with progressive project work experience
  • Alternatively, 7+ years of relevant experience; higher degree education and research tenure may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Self-directed individual capable of managing multiple initiatives with varying risk and timelines
  • Ability to research and report on data issues using software such as Alteryx and Excel
  • Foundational knowledge of loan lifecycle processes including adjudication, risk ratings, classifications, and reserve processes
