Overview
The organization is seeking a hands-on Fractional CFO to own finance end-to-end on a fractional basis (about 1–2 days per week, as needed). This role is responsible for cash flow, monthly close, payments, tax, budgeting, credit lines, and the financial controls that fund growth.
The business is profitable and doing $50M+ in annual revenue, scaling to $100M+. Work is fully remote and ongoing.
Responsibilities
- Own cash flow and forecasting, including maintaining a 13-week cash flow forecast current each week and understanding the cash trough.
- Ensure monthly close is completed on time, in coordination with the outside bookkeeper.
- Run and oversee payments: contractor pay (twice a month), supplier and freight invoices, software and card expenses, and affiliate/creator payouts—ensuring they are correct and paid by due dates.
- Manage budgets: set and track annual and monthly budgets; review fixed costs vs budget.
- Project subscription performance and cash conversion cycle, including subscription cohort projections and weekly flagging of variances against plan.
- Handle sales tax and corporate tax filings in partnership with the CPA, ensuring filings are accurate and on time.
- Own financial reporting for leadership: provide the cash picture for the weekly leadership meeting and send the CEO a monthly finance report.
- Manage credit and capital needs to fund growth, including:
- Growing credit limits and lines
- Setting up and running an asset-based lending facility
- Maintaining lender relationships and lender confidence through clean reporting
- Establish and maintain controls and accounting hygiene, including:
- Two-person approvals on every payment
- Monthly reconciliation of every account
- Keeping books audit-ready
- Manage currency exposure on supplier payments (RMB, USD, CAD).
- Own structure and tax setup for any new entity with the CPA.
- Own and improve automation/AI finance agents and financial automations, including ensuring finance work is efficiently managed.
Outcomes (Success Criteria)
- Cash flow, subscriptions, and the cash conversion cycle are projected clearly (projections vs. actuals) with cash never falling below the minimum balance.
- Books are accurate and closed on time each month, with no corrections needed after the P&L review with the CEO.
- Everyone is paid correctly and on time (contractors, bills, and payouts by due date).
- Fixed costs stay within budget (monthly fixed costs vs budget).
- Credit and capital are available to fund growth, including credit availability vs. cash needed for the next two quarters of purchase orders.
- Money is controlled and the books are audit-ready (second approval on every payment; all accounts reconciled monthly).
