Overview

A financial services organization is seeking a Controller to oversee the integrity of its financial records and develop accounting infrastructure to support a rapidly scaling, regulated business. This role reports directly to the CFO and involves leading the financial close process, managing external audits, setting accounting policies, and collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to align financial architecture with platform development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for all entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements prepared in accordance with US GAAP and applicable local reporting requirements.
  • Conduct technical accounting research for new products, transactions, and structures; establish and document accounting policies; and monitor regulatory developments from bodies such as FASB, SEC, and OCC.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors throughout the audit cycle and design, implement, and maintain internal controls suitable for an OCC-regulated trust company.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams during the design phase of new products and fund flows to ensure proper accounting treatment and data flow for accurate financial reporting.
  • Partner with commercial and legal teams to develop scalable quote-to-cash processes and ensure commercial contracts support appropriate revenue recognition.
  • Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals, proactively hiring and driving automation and process improvements to scale financial close, reconciliation, and reporting without proportional headcount increases.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in fast-scaling or complex multi-entity environments.
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP technical accounting with proven ability to research, conclude, and document complex accounting issues.
  • Experience partnering with Product and Engineering teams on financial system design, fund flow architecture, or platform build-outs, as well as with commercial teams on quote-to-cash and revenue recognition.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating accounting concerns to engineers and technical constraints to auditors or regulators.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, making decisions with incomplete information and adapting as new facts emerge.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools to automate reconciliations, financial close tasks, and reporting workflows to improve efficiency.
  • Experience in fintech, crypto-native companies, or regulated financial services environments such as banking, payments, broker-dealer, or trust companies is a plus.
