Overview

This role serves as a strategic analytical partner to finance and business leadership, using data and financial analysis to identify opportunities, evaluate complex business questions, and support informed decision-making across the organization. The position sits within FP&A but is not limited to traditional budgeting and reporting. Work spans strategy, analytics, and finance, including projects related to growth, pricing, marketing, operations, M&A, and capital investment.

The organization is seeking a highly analytical problem solver who can translate significant data resources into insights that guide where to invest, how to grow, and which opportunities will create the greatest value.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex, ambiguous business questions and develop data-driven recommendations to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Lead strategic analytical projects from problem definition through analysis, recommendations, and implementation—often tackling issues without a predefined solution or playbook.
  • Evaluate growth opportunities, including new markets, facilities, distribution capabilities, customer segments, and other investments.
  • Assess the financial and strategic impact of major business decisions, balancing quantitative analysis with qualitative factors such as customer behavior, competitive positioning, and operational considerations.
  • Leverage extensive data and technology resources to uncover trends, identify opportunities, and develop insights to improve business performance.
  • Develop financial analyses and business cases to support investment decisions, including evaluating expected return and broader strategic implications.
  • Analyze pricing, marketing, and commercial strategies, including ROI of marketing investments, customer economics, commission structures, and other drivers of profitable growth.
  • Partner cross-functionally with leaders across finance, operations, sales, marketing, IT, and other functions to gather information, challenge assumptions, and build comprehensive recommendations.
  • Support M&A and other strategic initiatives, including evaluating acquisition opportunities and explaining financial and operational implications of potential transactions; the organization expects to pursue approximately one acquisition per year.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and analytical capabilities as the organization scales and professionalizes its infrastructure.
  • Build a repeatable analytical framework to evaluate strategic opportunities and prioritize a pipeline of initiatives and investments.

Requirements

  • Strategy consulting experience: 2 years of post-MBA consulting experience (or 2+ years at the pre-MBA level) at a top-tier strategy consulting firm with a strong track record of performance.
  • Relevant industry experience: direct experience supporting distribution and/or industrial clients in or outside of consulting.
  • Relevant cross-functional experience: experience working on large cross-functional projects across multiple areas in consulting, including transformation, commercial and operational initiatives, post-merger integration, etc.
  • Structured and logical thinking with strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical aptitude to run and manage highly complicated quantitative analysis in a defect-free manner.
  • Excellent communication skills to share data-driven insights verbally and in writing in a way that builds confidence.

Personal Qualifications

  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinker with intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated interest in learning.
  • Self-motivated, high-energy individual comfortable in a high-demand, performance-driven environment.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in parallel.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to build credibility with team members and senior management.
