Overview

This role is for a Tax Director on the Global Tax team responsible for internal tax matters. Reporting to the Vice President of Tax, the position involves leadership in two main areas: leading technology-focused tax transformation efforts and managing the indirect tax function. The role is remote within the United States and includes direct people leadership.

Responsibilities

Tax Technology, Process Improvement, and AI Adoption

  • Lead initiatives to improve technology and processes across the Global Tax function, focusing on automation, scalability, data quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Act as the tax team’s AI champion by developing expertise in company-approved AI tools, identifying practical use cases, guiding team members on responsible use, leading pilot projects, and providing feedback to support adoption and governance.
  • Represent the tax function in cross-functional system implementations, upgrades, and process changes to ensure tax requirements are addressed early.
  • Collaborate with Tax, Finance, Accounting, IT, Product, and other stakeholders to enhance system integration, data flows, and tax-related reporting.
  • Support broader company technology initiatives by managing tax-related requirements, impacts, risks, and implementation considerations.

Indirect Tax Accounting, Compliance, and Audits

  • Oversee the indirect tax lifecycle including tax accounting, return preparation and review, filings, payments, reconciliations, and related reporting.
  • Maintain and review indirect tax general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Review tax calculations, filings, and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Lead indirect tax research, audits, notices, controversy matters, and monitor law changes while maintaining strong documentation and internal controls.
  • Manage and develop team members to ensure high-quality and timely execution across the function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree (MST/JD/LLM) is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, industry, or a combination.
  • Experience in people leadership including managing, developing, and coaching team members.
  • Familiarity with AI and automation tools such as n8n, Alteryx, and ChatGPT, with sound judgment on practical business applications.
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets, structured data, or financial systems and improve processes through technology, automation, or system changes.
  • Strong communication and project management skills with the ability to influence across teams and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive experience in indirect tax including tax accounting, compliance, audits, and operational processes in a global environment.
  • Strong research, analytical, and documentation skills with attention to detail and controls.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large datasets, structured data, and reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with general ledger systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus.
