Overview
The organization is seeking a VP, Finance to lead finance ownership across the full operating system, including corporate boutiques, the franchisor entity, and financial reporting relationships with franchise owners. This is a leadership team role responsible for financial health, margin protection, and building scalable finance infrastructure to support rapid growth.
Finance ownership in this role is designed to move beyond fragmented support and ensure consistent controls, reporting rhythm, and financial decision-making across the system.
AI-native capability is required. The finance function uses AI agents for bookkeeping, payables, receivables, and routine FP&A, and the role is expected to design, supervise, and continuously improve that agent-driven finance operation.
Responsibilities
Finance seat ownership & leadership
- Own the Finance seat as a full member of the leadership team; determine quarterly function priorities, propose quarterly Rocks, and advocate for required resources.
- Set finance strategy and own the Finance scorecard; define what the function measures, set goals, and be accountable when targets slip.
- Partner with the President on resource allocation, annual planning, and operating priorities.
- Build an investment decision framework (ROI, payback, risk) and ensure major investments are evaluated consistently.
- Own the finance agent stack and outside partners supporting it; design, build, and supervise AI agents for bookkeeping, payables, receivables, and routine FP&A, and set review/control standards.
- Continuously identify and move manual work to AI agents each quarter, including documenting controls so work remains accurate and auditable.
- Define how the finance function should grow beyond this seat (e.g., when to add roles such as FP&A or a controller), including what remains handled by AI and outside partners.
Controls, close & compliance
- Own the monthly close and accuracy across all three entities: corporate boutiques, the franchisor, and reporting relationships with franchise owners.
- Finalize and enforce a Delegation of Authority with clear approval thresholds; ensure spend is coded correctly to the organization’s chart of accounts.
- Document and run accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including collections on past-due franchise owner balances.
- Own the finance side of the compensation plan: set the annual merit budget, accrue bonuses, and confirm each quarter whether the company bonus gate was met for the President’s sign-off.
- Own tax and regulatory compliance, including monthly sales tax, 1099s, annual state and federal filings, local business taxes, and new state requirements as new markets are entered.
- Own franchisor financial statements and the annual audit required for the Franchise Disclosure Document; partner with legal counsel on state registration questions about financial condition.
Margin & revenue growth
- Own margin lines not driven by selling flowers, including vendor rebates and commissions, payment processing revenue share, and other system-wide programs.
- Build system-wide supplier and partner programs that strengthen both owner and franchisor profitability.
- Ensure every vendor program has signed written terms; track eligible purchases and claim owed rebates.
- Keep franchisor receivables separated from boutique balances with the same vendors.
- Own accuracy of royalty and brand fund calculations, including true-ups, and ensure franchise owners are billed per their agreements.
- Model financial impact of system changes (pricing, product margins, or bringing paid media in-house) separately for the franchisor and for franchise owners before decisions are made.
Planning, reporting & visibility
- Build and own the annual budget and quarterly reforecast; deliver a monthly budget vs. actual package with clear variance explanations for the leadership team.
- Embed rebate, royalty, and margin tracking into standard reporting so leadership can view them without needing ad hoc requests.
- Define franchise owner financial dashboards and benchmarks, including net operating income targets by months open.
- Decide what to measure, where data comes from, which sources to trust, and where reporting lives; recommend build, buy, or hybrid for the reporting architecture.
- Keep internal reporting and franchise owner-facing reporting clearly separated, while holding both to the same accuracy standards.
Franchise owner financial health
- Treat franchise owner unit economics as part of your job; system strength depends on owners making money.
- Partner with Franchise Success to provide financial tools, benchmarks, and guidance to help owners maintain profitability and identify underperforming locations early.
- Hold corporate boutiques to the same financial standards, chart of accounts, and benchmarks as franchise locations.
- Set financial standards that are clear, fair, and followable by franchise owners operating their own businesses.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years as the senior finance leader of a company or business unit, reporting to a CEO, President, or CFO, with ownership of the P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and close.
- Demonstrated, hands-on AI fluency in finance. Ability to show specific workflows personally built or redesigned using AI (e.g., reconciliations, close tasks, variance analysis, forecasting) and explain how output accuracy was verified. Real examples may be required during interviews.
- Franchisor finance experience strongly preferred, including understanding royalty and brand fund mechanics, franchise owner unit economics, FDD financial statements and audits, and multi-state franchise compliance.
- Experience in a multi-location consumer, retail, or hospitality business, ideally involving inventory, purchasing, and supply chain.
- Track record of building controls, processes, and reporting from an early-stage foundation.
- Experience creating new margin (e.g., supplier rebate programs, vendor partnerships, revenue share agreements) with measurable results.
- Deep hands-on accounting knowledge, including ability to review a close, identify issues, and explain why.
- Experience leading through outside partners, firms, and automated tools rather than relying on a large in-house accounting team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in franchisor financial reporting and audit cycles tied to Franchise Disclosure Document requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $165,000 to $185,000 (based on experience).
- Quarterly bonus: annual target of 10% of base salary, paid on the Finance department’s Rocks and scorecard once the company hits its quarterly goal.
- Stock options: stock option grant under the French Florist stock plan, with vesting beginning after 1 year of employment.
- Health insurance (medical, dental, vision) plus voluntary benefits (disability, critical illness, etc.).
- 401(k) retirement program.
Location
- Los Angeles (corporate boutiques); the organization operates a nationwide franchise network.
