Overview

This role supports financial planning, forecasting, and variance analysis by turning financial data into clear views of actual performance, expected results, and the drivers behind differences between plans and outcomes. Accuracy and clear communication are important throughout the work.

  • Location: Remote - United States
  • Job Type: Full Time
  • Compensation: $66,000-$74,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Prepare recurring financial reports, management summaries, and ad hoc analyses for stakeholder review.
  • Support KPI reporting by connecting financial measures with relevant operational context.
  • Help improve recurring financial reporting processes while maintaining appropriate review controls.
  • Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, and explain meaningful variances.
  • Communicate financial findings in concise business language, including risks, limitations, and areas requiring follow-up.
  • Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
  • When analysis begins with plan-versus-actual differences, determine which accounts or operating factors contributed to the movement, verify underlying information, and provide the appropriate context.

Requirements

  • Comfort learning company-specific reporting definitions, schedules, and planning processes.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain the drivers behind financial changes.
  • Foundational understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles.
  • Willingness to question inconsistent inputs and resolve or escalate discrepancies before completing an analysis.
  • Ability to treat variance analysis as more than stating that a number is higher or lower; where the information allows, identify operational or financial drivers and determine whether differences appear temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
  • Good judgment when financial information is incomplete or inconsistent: investigate the source, document limitations, and avoid presenting uncertain results as more precise than they are.
  • For remote work: dependable communication and self-management; organize work, respond to reasonable update requests, and use shared digital tools to keep responsibilities, updates, and handoffs clear.
