Overview
A rapidly growing eCommerce organization is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst specializing in Merchandising Analytics. This strategic role involves partnering across finance, data, and commercial teams to influence pricing strategies, assortment investments, and category portfolio decisions. The position requires autonomy and the ability to provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A).
Responsibilities
- Own and manage high-visibility analytical programs impacting pricing, assortment, and category strategies.
- Develop and maintain enterprise-grade analytical systems using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and Excel to enable scalable, self-service reporting.
- Lead complex financial modeling initiatives such as PVM analysis, margin scenario planning, and inventory economics assessments.
- Define and enforce merchandising finance frameworks including pricing guardrails, margin policies, and ROI standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate analytical insights into actionable strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
- Partner with Merchandising and Category teams to inform pricing architecture, promotional investments, and assortment decisions.
- Lead post-launch performance analyses for new SKUs, brands, or categories to guide ongoing investment and optimization.
- Evaluate marketing spend and incrementality to optimize ROI and demand elasticity models.
- Contribute to the development of scalable analytical infrastructure supporting business growth and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in financial analysis, FP&A, or merchandising finance, preferably within retail or eCommerce sectors.
- Proficiency in SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and advanced Excel for building analytical tools and reports.
- Extensive experience in financial modeling, including PVM analysis, margin scenario planning, and category profitability assessments.
- Strong understanding of pricing architecture, promotional investments, and assortment strategies.
- Proven ability to translate complex data into clear strategic recommendations for executive stakeholders.
- Experience leading financial architecture for new SKU, brand, or assortment launches.
- Advanced knowledge of marketing spend analytics, incrementality measurement, and ROI evaluation.
- Retail or omnichannel finance experience, with understanding of SKU economics, inventory management, and operational metrics.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
