Overview

This role involves supporting the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions for a fast-growing technology business specializing in a high-performance PostgreSQL platform. The FP&A Analyst will report to the FP&A leader and be responsible for planning and analysis related to headcount, cost of goods sold, marketing spend, and recurring forecast updates. The position requires turning complex financial and operational data into clear, executive-ready materials for leadership and the Board.

This is a hands-on role focused on building structure and insight in a dynamic environment rather than simply updating templates or publishing numbers. The analyst will investigate business drivers, write clear performance narratives, and support decision-making.

This is a remote position based in the United States, with a preference for candidates on the East Coast or those able to work substantial East Coast hours to ensure strong team overlap.

Responsibilities

  • Own headcount planning, forecasting, and budget tracking, including approved roles, hiring timing, compensation assumptions, and changes against plan.
  • Maintain visibility into cost of goods sold (COGS), support recurring COGS forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Partner with Marketing to monitor spend, understand budget variances, and evaluate financial impacts of programs, campaigns, and partnerships.
  • Support weekly Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) forecasts by gathering inputs, validating assumptions, identifying changes, and maintaining forecasting cadence.
  • Prepare recurring financial slides, executive materials, and written performance updates explaining changes, causes, and areas requiring attention.
  • Conduct budget-versus-actual analysis and follow up with department leaders on spending changes, risks, and forecast updates.
  • Support monthly and quarterly planning conversations with clear financial analysis and well-organized materials.
  • Collaborate with Accounting during month-end close to improve accuracy and timeliness of accruals, expense reporting, and variance explanations.
  • Improve recurring FP&A processes, templates, and reporting workflows to enhance speed and consistency.
  • Work directly with financial and operational data, validate inputs, identify inconsistencies, and escalate issues affecting business decisions.
  • Utilize AI tools to accelerate analysis, draft initial performance narratives, identify trends, and improve workflows while maintaining strong human judgment, confidentiality, and financial accuracy.
  • Own creation of meticulous Board and executive materials, including financial slides, performance narratives, variance explanations, and supporting analysis, ensuring accuracy and clarity.

Requirements

  • Strong FP&A experience including forecasting, headcount planning, budget management, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to independently manage recurring financial processes and produce accurate work with limited supervision.
  • Comfortable partnering directly with department leaders and asking thoughtful questions when assumptions or spending plans do not align.
  • Ability to translate financial data into clear written explanations of business performance.
  • Intellectual curiosity with a tendency to ask "why" rather than simply report numbers.
  • Strong spreadsheet and financial modeling skills; comfortable working with large or imperfect datasets.
  • Commitment to data integrity and willingness to investigate anomalies rather than passing them along.
  • Interest in how AI can improve finance workflows and demonstrated sound judgment in applying AI tools to analytical work.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, evolving environment where building structure and processes is valued.
  • Ability to take ownership of open-ended financial questions rather than relying on fully defined instructions.
  • Strong communication skills for preparing executive-level presentations and narratives.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $110,000 – $135,000 USD annually
  • Bonus and equity participation
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance (for US-based employees)
  • Flexible and unlimited paid time off
