$90 – $120/hr

Overview

This role is for an independent contractor supporting evaluations of frontier AI systems for real-world FP&A tasks. You will design and submit realistic financial planning and analysis exercises, test them against a frontier AI model, and document exactly where the model fails.

  • Contract
  • Fully remote
  • Availability: 15–25 hours per week
  • Compensation: $90–120/hour

Responsibilities

  • Design realistic FP&A tasks, such as:
    • Driver-based forecasts
    • Budget-versus-actual variance and bridge analysis
    • Scenario and sensitivity modelling
    • Cost and headcount planning
    • Unit economics
    • Capital allocation cases
    • Board-ready reporting packs
  • Ensure each task includes requirements for live research against primary sources, such as:
    • Filings
    • Published pricing
    • Published rate and index data
    • Regulatory and standards documentation
  • Require multi-step calculations and an actual file deliverable (typically a multi-tab Excel workbook, but also memos, decks, PDFs, and CSVs).
  • Test each task against a frontier AI model and review outputs with the same scrutiny you would apply before sharing with a CFO.
  • Document exactly where and how the model failed, including issues such as:
    • Figures asserted that do not appear in the cited source
    • Summary cells hardcoded instead of referencing the model
    • Growth applied linearly where it should compound
    • Currencies or reporting bases mixed within a column
    • Variance bridges that do not reconcile
    • Requirements silently dropped
  • Author scoring rubrics with sourced, objective criteria that another analyst can apply without repeating your research.
  • Increase task difficulty when the model succeeds, until a genuine gap is exposed.

Example Work

Sample task: Build a three-year headcount and payroll forecast for a 250-person company growing 12% a year, split by department, with a summary tab comparing two hiring scenarios. Summary figures must be formulas, not typed values.

Sample failure modes identified:

  • Applied 12% growth linearly instead of compounding it, understating year three
  • Typed the summary totals as constants, so changing an input changed nothing
  • Produced four tabs when six were specified

Sample rubric line:

  • "+3 — Every figure on the summary tab is a formula referencing another tab, not a typed value."

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, financial control, or commercial finance.
  • Direct experience owning a forecast model, a budgeting cycle, or a reporting pack (not only contributing).
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills, including:
    • Multi-tab modelling
    • Driver-based forecasting
    • Scenario and sensitivity enablement
    • Comfort working beyond template completion
  • Strong ability to verify figures against sources and detect subtle errors.
  • Excellent written English and high attention to detail.
  • Availability of 15–25 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in either US GAAP-based or IFRS-based reporting; experts fluent in either are encouraged to apply.
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CFA (plus, not required).
