Overview

The organization is seeking an International Tax Lead to own tax across all markets, including the US and internationally (including each new country entered). This role serves as the company’s tax subject-matter expert—partnering with Finance, Legal, Compliance, People, and Product—while identifying tax issues early and ensuring filings and positions are accurate, timely, and defensible.

This position reports to the Head of Accounting and works closely with finance leads in each market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage external advisors
    • Direct and review advisor work across jurisdictions
    • Scope the work, set calendars, review deliverables, and hold firms to deadlines and budget
    • Evaluate advisor coverage and fees each year and recommend changes
  • Own global tax compliance and reporting
    • Maintain a single global tax calendar covering all entities and jurisdictions
    • Review federal, state, and foreign income tax returns, indirect tax filings, and withholding filings before submission
    • Own the quarterly and annual income tax provision (ASC 740), including foreign entities, uncertain tax positions, and valuation allowances; support the external audit
  • Oversee US international reporting
    • Oversee filings such as Forms 5471 and 5472
    • Own GILTI (global intangible low-taxed income) and Subpart F calculations
  • Oversee US state compliance
    • Manage state income, franchise, and sales tax, and state business registrations and renewals
  • Manage cross-border and in-country tax obligations
    • Own transfer pricing policy and documentation for intercompany services, loans, and charges
    • Work with Accounting to ensure intercompany charges are booked correctly
    • Manage withholding tax on cross-border payments, including treaty eligibility and permanent establishment risk (including for remote employees and contractors)
    • Partner with local finance teams and advisors on in-country corporate income tax, VAT/GST, and lending-specific tax rules in each country where the organization operates
  • Support global expansion
    • Lead the tax workstream when entering a new country: entity and structure choices, registrations, advisor selection, and first-year filings
  • Respond to tax matters
    • Respond to tax notices, inquiries, and audits in every jurisdiction
  • Advise the business
    • Serve as the first point of contact for tax questions across Finance, Legal, Compliance, People, and Product
    • Review new products, pricing, fees, market entries, acquisitions, and entity changes for tax impact before launch
    • Advise on equity compensation and payroll tax for a global workforce in collaboration with People
    • Track tax law changes in each market and explain implications in plain language
  • Build and improve tax processes
    • Document tax processes and controls to meet audit standards
    • Improve tax data flows from NetSuite and other finance systems
    • Identify planning opportunities that reduce global tax cost within the organization’s risk appetite

Requirements

  • 8+ years of corporate tax experience, combining a Big 4 or national accounting firm with in-house experience at a multinational company

  • Transfer pricing experience
  • Strong ASC 740 tax provision experience, including foreign entities
