Overview

This role is responsible for group financial accounting across the UK and US, supporting reliable month-end close, audit delivery, and technical accounting as the business scales. The position also works closely with finance automation and systems (including NetSuite), helping ensure outsourced work meets group standards and that automated/AI-generated outputs are accurate and properly controlled.

The employer operates as an automated electronics manufacturing platform serving hardware businesses across robotics, autonomous systems and other advanced technology applications.

Responsibilities

  • Financial accounting and close: Own month-end activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations, with a clear understanding of how the accounts fit together.
  • Audit and statutory reporting: Act as the first point of contact for auditors, manage audit requests, and prepare supporting schedules under UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • Technical accounting: Lead technical accounting projects, including:
    • IFRS 15 revenue recognition
    • capitalisation policy
    • treatment of intercompany transactions as commercial models develop
  • Group reporting: Support reporting across UK and US entities, including intercompany reconciliations, and contribute to group consolidation in NetSuite where experience allows.
  • Outsourced provider management: Manage the relationship with the UK outsourced accounting firm; review their output and ensure it meets the standard required by the group.
  • NetSuite and finance systems: Work directly in NetSuite and across systems that feed into it; understand how data moves through the business rather than treating the accounting system in isolation.
  • AI and automation: Review and take ownership of automated and AI-generated finance output, ensuring it is accurate and properly controlled; identify opportunities for further automation without weakening financial control.
  • Ownership and continuous improvement: Partner with the Finance Director to improve systems and controls, including improving collection cycles and reducing DSO through automation for the credit offering.

Requirements

  • Qualified or near-qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or near-qualified), with strong technical foundations.
  • Technical accounting strength: Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS, and a clear understanding of how accounts are put together.
  • NetSuite experience: Relevant exposure to NetSuite, including working in a finance team producing accounting information and working autonomously to meet deadlines.
  • Technology fluency: Comfortable working across systems and interested in how AI is changing finance; view automation as a tool rather than a substitute for judgement.
  • Practical problem-solving: Strong curiosity and drive to understand reconciling issues and simplify unnecessarily difficult processes.
  • Commercial interest: An interest in how technology connects to real products and manufacturing; an electronics background is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience trained in practice (including Big 4 or top 20 firm), followed by interest in moving into an operating business.
  • Experience in industry, either qualified or close to qualifying.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: £75k–£85k, depending on experience, plus equity.

Location

  • Remote within the UK, or based from offices in London or Cambridge if preferred.

Expected Growth

Over time, the role is expected to grow into Group Financial Controller as the finance function builds out around the individual’s contribution and the business scales.
