Overview
This role involves working with a financial infrastructure platform that supports businesses globally by enabling payment acceptance, revenue growth, and new business opportunities. The mission is to increase the GDP of the internet by building powerful and flexible tools for running internet businesses.
The position is focused on the Merchant of Record (MoR) product within the Managed Payments team, which simplifies global selling by handling tax, fraud, and compliance on behalf of users. The role requires navigating complex indirect tax liabilities and supporting international expansion.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an indirect tax subject matter expert (global VAT/GST) for the Merchant of Record product, managing complexities related to shifting tax liability through marketplace and agency rules.
- Support expansion into new international markets, ensuring compliance with diverse global tax regulations.
- Participate in policy matters affecting indirect taxes internationally.
- Collaborate with international indirect tax compliance and accounting teams on VAT/GST compliance and process enhancements.
- Manage indirect tax audits and other matters involving tax authorities internationally.
- Work with tax, product, and engineering teams to define requirements and develop tax solutions for the MoR product.
- Promote indirect tax awareness through training and liaison with business and tax partners regarding changes in legislation, systems, policies, and processes.
Requirements
- 4-6 years of relevant indirect tax knowledge, laws, and regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree and professional qualification in tax or law.
- Previous in-house experience within a multinational business and experience in legal or accountancy firms.
- Experience with indirect taxes related to the distribution of digital services.
- Proven experience handling VAT/GST complexities for a digital service provider acting as a Marketplace/Merchant of Record.
- Accounting experience and proficiency with ERP systems and data analytics.
- Strong communication skills, able to interface clearly with all management levels.
- Project management experience; detail-oriented and takes ownership of projects.
- Ability to analyze data and make appropriate recommendations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, informal, and ambiguous environment.
- Willingness and ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual US base salary range: $100,500 - $150,700.
- Salary range may vary based on experience, qualifications, and location.
- Additional benefits may include equity, company bonuses or commissions, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
Location & Work Arrangement
- This role is based in the US and reports to the Indirect Tax advisory lead.
- Hybrid work model available: either office-based or remote (defined as 35+ miles or 56+ km from an office).
- Office-based employees are expected to spend at least 50% of their time in the local office or with users.
- Remote employees are expected to work primarily from home but may attend meetings, on-sites, and events as needed.
- The organization does not cover relocation costs for remote work.
