Overview
This role leads and coordinates financial processes, providing direction, oversight, and review of financial transactions. It involves performing professional accounting work, including preparing financial statements, insurance department filings, and other regulatory reports. The position requires analyzing and recommending solutions for complex accounting issues.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate expert understanding of complex financial information and make recommendations to improve organizational performance
- Lead timely and accurate posting, balancing, reconciliation, and review of financial transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual comprehensive financial reporting packages, including budget-to-actual analysis, year-over-year comparisons, and key performance indicators
- Analyze balance sheets and cash flows across all lines of business
- Interact with senior management on financial matters, provide recommendations and solutions, and ensure resolution through to completion
- Ensure financial reporting complies with professional standards and provides relevant data for strategic decision-making
- Evaluate accounting processes and identify solutions to maintain adequate internal controls and mitigate financial statement risk and compliance issues
- Lead analysis, testing, and resolution of technical accounting system issues in collaboration with impacted departments
- Serve as lead liaison with independent and insurance department auditors to fulfill requests and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; oversee and review their work to ensure quality
- Develop financial reports and metrics for management presentations and recommend actions to support strategic initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Six years of accounting-related experience, including at least three years in a senior or training capacity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in spreadsheet applications and accounting systems
- Strong organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
- Strong business acumen, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of financial and operational planning processes and best practices
- Strong work ethic and flexible work style
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment regularly
- Proven ability to navigate complex organizational situations involving multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated decision-making skills with balanced consideration of business issues
- Clean credit history as reported by credit report
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $84,000.00 - $141,750.00 (may vary by market and based on experience and other job-related factors)
- Eligible for bonuses and commissions as part of the compensation package
