Overview
A rapidly growing ecommerce organization is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst, Merchandising Analytics to serve as a strategic thought partner at the intersection of finance, data, and commercial decision-making. This role involves owning high-visibility analytical programs that directly influence pricing strategy, assortment investment, and category portfolio decisions. The position operates with a high degree of autonomy and requires collaboration with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, and FP&A.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex financial modeling initiatives including Price, Volume, Mix (PVM) analysis, margin scenario planning, inventory economics, and category profitability.
- Architect and maintain enterprise-grade analytical systems using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and advanced Excel to build scalable, self-service reporting infrastructure.
- Define and govern merchandising finance frameworks such as pricing guardrails, margin floor policies, and assortment ROI standards to ensure analytical consistency and financial discipline.
- Act as a senior cross-functional advisor, translating complex analytical work into clear strategic recommendations for VP- and C-level stakeholders.
- Partner closely with Merchandising and Category leadership to advise on pricing architecture, promotional investment, assortment strategy, and category P&L ownership.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or merchandising finance, preferably within retail or ecommerce.
- Expert-level knowledge of Price, Volume, Mix (PVM) analysis with the ability to build frameworks from scratch and deliver financial narratives influencing executive commercial strategy.
- Proven track record managing financial architecture for new SKU, brand, and assortment launches, including margin models, cannibalization frameworks, scenario planning, and post-launch performance systems.
- Advanced skills in marketing spend analytics and incrementality measurement, capable of evaluating ROI trade-offs and modeling demand elasticity.
- Proficiency in SQL and Snowflake for large-scale data extraction, transformation, and analytics without reliance on data engineering.
- Experience in retail or omnichannel finance with knowledge of SKU economics, inventory turn, and operational rigor.
