Private Equity AI Research Contributor

Overview

This role is for Subject Matter Experts with private equity experience to create realistic Excel tasks that test how well AI can perform Private Equity Associate–level modeling work.

You will use your own experience building LBOs, returns analyses, and portfolio models in Excel to design tasks, define precise grading criteria, and validate that the tasks have a clear, correct answer.

Responsibilities

• Write realistic Excel tasks drawn from your own work, including:
  • Extending existing models
  • Fixing broken ones
  • Building from a brief
• Work through each task yourself to ensure there is a clear and correct answer.
• Create yes-or-no criteria that are precise enough for an automated grader to mark any attempt against them.
• When needed, provide a detailed yes-or-no rubric if frontier AI models produce incorrect results.
• Collaborate on task review and sign-off with a reviewer.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in private equity or growth equity (buyout, growth or special situations), with a sector focus or generalist deal coverage.
• Deep, hands-on Excel experience, including:
  • LBOs
  • Debt schedules
  • Returns sensitivities
  • Goal seek
  • Circular references
• Strong written English communication skills.
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn concepts in AI and Evals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using AI tools on your own work, with an understanding of common modeling mistakes.

Compensation & Benefits

• Independent contractor engagement.
• Payment is task-based.
• Experts who complete their first task within the required timeline will then be qualified to do multiple tasks for the remainder of the project.
• Payments will be weekly following task completion.

Location

• Fully remote.
• Completed on your own schedule.

Additional Information

• Start date: Immediate.
• Duration: Approximately 4–6 weeks.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.

Getting Started (Onboarding Process)

• Attend a 30-minute group walkthrough call.
• Create one original task from your own work.
• Submit:
  • The brief
  • The actual input workbook(s) needed to complete the task
• Input-file uploads are compulsory.
• The brief must be written by you.
• Input workbooks must be human-built and use real data that has been sanitised, or public data with the source named.
• No AI usage is allowed.
• Onboarding does not guarantee a job offer; selection remains subject to written approval of the task proposal.
