Position Summary

Title: Sales Tax Analyst (also known internally as New Client Onboarding Specialist)

Location: 100% Remote (USA)

The Sales Tax Analyst will join the new client onboarding team, focusing on problem-solving, creative solutions, and supporting clients with complex issues. This role is responsible for setting up clients within the systems so the Sales Tax Filing Team can begin submitting filings (this role does not manage filing returns). Extensive training will be provided.

The role involves analyzing client data, performing sales tax nexus research, and ensuring tax systems are set up to high standards. It requires close collaboration with both external clients and internal teammates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client onboarding projects from sign-up through completion, ensuring timely progress and effective communication.
  • Set up and test tax collection settings on sales platforms, troubleshooting and resolving collection issues to ensure accurate sales tax collection from permit start dates.
  • Analyze economic and other presence factors to determine clients' sales tax nexus and provide explanations to inform permit decisions.
  • Collaborate with the onboarding team to identify and implement process improvements for a hassle-free client experience while minimizing risk.
  • Analyze and document clients' transaction data using Excel and integrate data into tax software systems to confirm accuracy.

Qualifications

Professional

  • 1-2 years of experience in project management, accounting, sales tax, and/or research.
  • Strong references from previous supervisors.
  • Sales tax experience is a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency with Excel and comfort working with complex data in spreadsheets.

Note: Final hiring step includes arranging reference calls with three former managers.

Measures of Success

  • Complete client onboarding in an average of fewer than 60 days.
  • Achieve a client onboarding Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 50 or higher.
  • Onboard an average of 1.5 clients per month by the end of the first year.
  • Complete 3 hours of work-related education or training per quarter.
  • Achieve at least 80% completion rate on quarterly goals.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Target compensation: $65,000, commensurate with experience.
  • 43 days off per year, including 22 holidays and 21 PTO days.
  • 3 additional volunteer days per year.

  • 401(k) plan with company matching: 100% match up to 3% contribution, plus 50% match on 4-5% contributions.
  • Fully remote work with core hours from 11 AM to 4 PM EST.
