Overview

An industry-leading software company specializing in energy and sustainability management is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing finance team. This role involves full ownership of month-end close and reconciliation processes, with a focus on building efficient accounting operations. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will lead the close cycle, drive process improvements, and manage complex areas such as revenue recognition and sales tax compliance. There is a defined path toward an Accounting Manager role for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of month-end and year-end close processes alongside the Controller, aiming to reduce the close cycle to 5 days through disciplined processes and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations with precision and accountability.
  • Manage the sales tax process and compliance end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Lead cleanup and ongoing management of revenue recognition, ensuring structure, accuracy, and adherence to GAAP.
  • Oversee banking operations and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable to maintain cash flow visibility and support vendor and customer relationships.
  • Deliver clear and insightful financial reports and flux analyses that translate data into actionable narratives for decision-makers.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for audits, tax projects, and compliance activities.
  • Partner with the Controller to identify inefficiencies and streamline workflows, building scalable accounting infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated ability to manage complex close processes independently. Public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Experience in SaaS or B2B technology companies, with understanding of subscription revenue models, ARR dynamics, and related accounting nuances.
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP, particularly in revenue recognition, with the ability to apply standards confidently and communicate them clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite with meaningful hands-on experience; familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities to build models, identify anomalies, and convert raw data into clear insights.
  • Strong communication skills, proactive approach, and ability to build trust quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to raise issues constructively, challenge assumptions, and propose solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred and required if SaaS/technology experience is limited.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $100,000 - $115,000, plus a 3% annual bonus.
  • 100% company-paid Health, Dental, and Vision coverage for employees; competitive cost-sharing for family coverage.
  • Company-paid Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance.
  • Adoption grants and paid leave to support family growth.
  • Wellness programs focused on physical and mental health.
  • 401(k) plan with a 3% company match.
  • Monthly connectivity stipend for remote work.
  • Tuition assistance and professional development programs.
  • Flexible time off and a remote-first work environment with optional in-office collaboration.
