Senior Accounting Consultant

Overview

An experienced Senior Accounting and Finance Advisory Consultant is needed for a project-based, remote engagement lasting approximately 2-3 months. The role involves supporting client engagements with state, county, local city, or school district entities. This opportunity suits a professional with public entity industry experience, such as a Controller or Accounting Manager, who prefers hands-on, high-impact project work.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cleanup of balance sheet accounts, historical reconciliations, and accounting backlogs
• Support month-end and quarter-end close stabilization efforts
• Prepare for audits of state, county, local city, or school district entities
• Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and advisors
• Ensure audit readiness and proper documentation
• Maintain compliance with GASB standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GASB standards, and core accounting principles
• Experience supporting month-end close, financial reporting, and audits
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguous or evolving environments
• Advanced Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Accounting Manager or Controller in public entities
• Experience in project-based, interim, or advisory roles

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range: $60–$100 per hour, depending on background
