Overview
A fintech organization is seeking a Senior Credit Underwriter to join their lending team. This role focuses on underwriting and structuring working capital loans primarily for eCommerce, software, and managed services companies, with plans to expand to all small businesses. The position involves direct interaction with prospective borrowers to assess creditworthiness and develop creative lending solutions. Collaboration with sales and product teams is essential to innovate underwriting processes and portfolio management.
Responsibilities
- Independently underwrite loan applications by analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from ecommerce, SaaS, and SMB borrowers.
- Structure, price, and propose loan terms balancing borrower repayment capacity and the organization's risk posture.
- Lead customer-facing deal activities including diligence calls, negotiations, and providing real-time eligibility and structuring guidance.
- Support sales teams on complex or competitive loan applications from initial contact through closing.
- Monitor portfolio health through covenant monitoring, delinquency tracking, and portfolio reviews.
- Identify early warning signals and contribute to monthly portfolio review discussions.
- Assist in drafting and refining underwriting guidelines, risk rating frameworks, and policy documentation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Data Science teams to improve underwriting processes, customer experience, and credit infrastructure.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of credit or underwriting experience in fintech, SMB, or commercial lending.
- Significant customer-facing experience, including participation in negotiations and underwriting calls.
- Strong credit fundamentals including financial statement analysis, risk rating, cash flow assessment, and identification of structural mitigants across diverse business models.
- Experience working in high-growth environments with evolving processes, tooling, and infrastructure.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and translate credit requirements effectively across Sales, Legal, Product, and Engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to regulated lending or institutional credit frameworks.
- Familiarity with credit file standards, lending policy documentation, and examination-ready governance practices.
Compensation & Benefits

- Salary ranges based on geographic location and experience:
- US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or San Francisco Bay Area: $142,900 - $160,700
- US employees outside these metro areas: $128,600 - $144,600
- Canadian employees (any location): CAD $135,000 - $151,900
