Senior Financial Analyst, Cost Accounting

Overview

This role focuses on building and scaling cost accounting policies, models, and reporting to support financial and growth objectives. You will partner with cross-functional teams to drive profitability insights, improve controllership practices, and transition reporting from spreadsheets to scalable, self-service tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage cost accounting policies, controls, and reporting to support financial and growth objectives.
• Architect and scale the cost accounting framework, including expense allocation methodologies across all business segments and legal entities.
• Produce market- and product-level profitability analysis to guide margin optimization.
• Support intercompany arrangements, including cost allocation, transfer pricing inputs, and reporting requests from internal and third-party counterparties.
• Build and maintain driver-based financial models linking membership growth, staffing decisions, and vendor spend to the P&L and cash.
• Support or own monthly close activities related to cost, including accruals, allocations, variance analysis vs. budget and forecast, and management reporting packages led with drivers rather than restated numbers.
• Develop business cases and ROI analyses for vendor decisions and build-versus-buy evaluations, including market expansion and headcount investment; track accountability to modeled outcomes.
• Work with a cross-functional team on continuous improvement and standardization of policy, process, and controls, with an emphasis on technology development and shifting reporting from spreadsheets to scalable, self-service tooling.
• Provide education, tools, analysis, and supplemental reporting to support market, network, and clinical teams in managing their own cost performance.
• Own responsibility for responding to applicable audit, examination, and other regulatory or compliance-related inquiries and requests.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5–10 years of finance and/or accounting experience.
• Hands-on cost accounting experience, including allocation methodology, cost center design, unit cost or product-level costing, and the ability to defend how a number was built.
• Core FP&A or accounting experience, including cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, variance analysis, and management reporting.
• Advanced financial modeling skills, including comfort working with large and imperfect data sets, AI, and/or a BI platform.
• Deep understanding of ERP or planning systems, or experience standing up a cost allocation model from scratch.
• Ability to explain financial results clearly to non-finance stakeholders and to challenge assumptions respectfully when numbers do not support the narrative.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and process improvements are part of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

• Healthcare services and/or health insurance experience.
• Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $58,000–$125,000 annually

The pay range listed is the range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. The actual base salary offered will depend on factors including qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location where the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
