Overview

A leading provider of digital and print educational resources is seeking a Senior Analyst, Finance to join their Finance organization within Higher Education. This remote role, open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States, reports directly to the Finance Manager. The position acts as a strategic liaison to the Accounting team, ensuring revenue forecasting, budgeting, deferred revenue modeling, and reserves methodology align with GAAP revenue recognition standards. The Senior Analyst will mentor others and lead technical efforts to analyze revenue behavior, including the impact of distribution models and product lifecycles on the profit and loss statement.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary functional link between Finance and Accounting, reconciling forecasts, budgets, and accounting results under consistent revenue recognition logic.
  • Produce month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close deliverables, variance analyses, and forward-looking forecasts and budgets with management reporting.
  • Translate revenue recognition policies into forecasting drivers that accurately reflect performance obligations and revenue timing per GAAP.
  • Conduct deep-dive Price/Volume/Mix analyses across the company’s sales transactions to distinguish revenue growth drivers.
  • Manage financial behaviors of Pre-Activity (physical inventory/fulfillment) and Post-Billed (usage-based/consumption) distribution channels, collaborating with Billing and IT to minimize revenue leakage.
  • Analyze existing product revenue behavior and lead modeling for New Product Introductions, including ramp-up and cannibalization risks.
  • Own methodologies for returns reserves, bad debt, and revenue allowances, using predictive operational data to optimize reserves for risk and net yield.
  • Provide technical leadership by reviewing analyst work, guiding complex modeling techniques, and standardizing revenue modeling protocols across Finance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of extensive revenue modeling experience with strong knowledge of revenue recognition principles, Price/Volume/Mix analysis, and Deferred Revenue mechanics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel (including Power Query and modeling); experience with BI tools such as Tableau or PowerBI and general ledger systems like Oracle or IBM Cognos.
  • Experience modeling sales, returns, and revenue recognition for both physical goods and service-based credits/adjustments.
  • Proven ability to analyze large transactional datasets to identify trends in retention, churn, expansion, contraction, yield erosion, or pricing optimization.
  • Experience in a lead or mentorship role, including project management or coaching and peer-review of junior financial analysts, is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or MBA are preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $71,300 - $100,000, with base pay dependent on knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
  • Eligibility for a full range of medical and other benefits depending on the position.
