Overview
The organization is seeking a Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting to lead Corporate GL accounting and drive the monthly close across the accounting organization. This role partners closely with the SEC reporting function to support consolidation, financial statements, and related disclosures. You will collaborate with Accounts Payable, Treasury, FP&A, Accounting Operations, and International Finance to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and on time, and to resolve issues before they impact the close.
This role requires occasional in-person collaboration at the Chicago office and is based in the Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
- Orchestrate the monthly close: Drive the close calendar and hold the accounting organization to it, from GL through consolidated results. Step in to solve problems as they arise and escalate early.
- Corporate GL accounting: Oversee Corporate GL accounting across cash, prepaid and other assets, long-lived assets, investments, accounts payable, and accrued and long-term liabilities, including review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- SEC reporting partnership: Partner with the SEC reporting team on consolidation, financial statements, and related disclosures for 10-Q and 10-K, ensuring global consolidation is accurate, complete, and delivered ahead of each reporting deadline (including intercompany and multi-currency considerations and alignment between operating results and consolidated financial statements).
- Reviewer-first approach: Primarily serve as a reviewer of work prepared by the team; prepare only certain non-routine or out-of-scope items.
- Team leadership and development: Set clear expectations, coach in real time, build leadership capability within the team, and foster ownership, urgency, and accountability.
- Broad technical accounting knowledge: Maintain baseline knowledge across many accounting areas to support teams during close and serve as a first line of authority on US GAAP questions.
- SOX and controls: Understand SOX requirements and ensure Corporate GL controls are well designed and operating effectively; perform ongoing risk assessment and strengthen the control environment as the business scales.
- Finance leadership spokesperson: Communicate close status, risks, and decisions clearly; anticipate cross-team dependencies before they become blockers.
- Systems and chart of accounts: Learn the ERP system and chart of accounts inside and out; review, troubleshoot, and guide the team using that knowledge.
- Process improvement and automation: Identify and lead opportunities to automate and improve processes across Corporate Accounting, including use of AI tools.
- Cross-functional partnership: Partner with Latin America Finance to ensure global alignment of accounting processes and policies; collaborate with leaders across accounting, finance, and the broader organization.
Requirements
- BA/BS/MS degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA required.
- Public company experience required, whether in a public company controllership, at a public accounting firm serving public companies, or ideally both.
- Working knowledge of SOX and internal controls over financial reporting.
- Proficiency in US GAAP, with ability to independently evaluate and guide accounting conclusions, plus baseline knowledge across many accounting areas to jump in and support as needed.
- Demonstrated leadership ability that moves people and drives accountability, with experience leading in structured, high-stakes environments.
- Proven track record managing and developing a team in an accounting or finance function, with strong review orientation.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including ability to track multiple moving parts across teams and keep close processes on schedule.
- Ability to serve as the voice of the close with Director and VP level leaders and to exercise influence without direct authority across teams regardless of reporting lines.
- Clear, direct, and vocal communication style, including ability to set expectations, deliver feedback, and escalate appropriately.
- Experience with ERP systems and willingness to learn the organization’s system and chart of accounts in depth; NetSuite experience a plus.
- Familiarity with multi-currency accounting and intercompany transactions across global entities and how they flow into consolidation and external reporting.
- Comfort leveraging AI and automation tools to improve close accuracy, reduce manual work, and scale team output.
- Ability to travel occasionally both domestically and internationally.
