Overview
This role is for a Senior Payroll Tax Accountant responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal, Provincial, State, and Local tax requirements across the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The position involves managing timely and accurate statutory payments and filings within the payroll function.
Responsibilities
- Partner with ADP to ensure timely and accurate payments of biweekly, quarterly, and annual tax liabilities and return filings for US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, including W2s and T-4s
- Prepare payroll tax journal entries for all business entities accurately and on time
- Prepare and distribute various accounting and tax-related reports to key business partners, including ad hoc information or analysis requests
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate tax implications and risks of proposed business initiatives, advise on process improvements, and ensure compliance
- Gather data, perform research and analysis during audits, ensure accurate reporting, identify potential challenges, and advise on appropriate tax alternatives
- Manage analysis of all tax inquiries and notices promptly, including those from state jurisdictions, federal government, local taxing authorities, and Canadian provinces
- Research and respond to associate payroll tax inquiries and handle associate tax changes as applicable
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll tax regulations to ensure compliance and work with management to design and implement changes
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement enhancements
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Payroll Tax and Accounting
- Working knowledge of multistate US, Canada, and Puerto Rico payroll
- Experience with Oracle HCM, ADP SmartCompliance, CICPlus, Blackline, and SAP Financials preferred
- Excellent customer service and strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative and drive to achieve results and goals
- Strong analytical skills, including experience analyzing data and making recommendations based on analysis
- Ability to execute tasks thoroughly, accurately, and timely while managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
