Senior Revenue Accountant

Overview

A well-established professional services organization is seeking a Senior Contract Revenue Accountant to join their Corporate Revenue Accounting team. This role focuses on ensuring timely and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606. The position involves contract review, accounting system setup validation, month-end and quarter-end close activities, and post-close financial reporting. The role requires strong attention to detail, technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

Project Set-up & Activation

• Review project activation requests and evaluate contracts to ensure proper documentation for revenue accounting under ASC 606
• Ensure contract review and accounting processes comply with documented policies
• Review budgets to confirm contract terms are accurately reflected
• Resolve questions arising from contract reviews with professional services sales leadership
• Apply system flags for transactions, non-standard contract terms, volume discounts, fees, or other revenue-impacting items
• Serve as a subject matter expert on revenue implications of contract terms and conditions
• Act as a technical accounting resource to business engagement management and legal teams during contracting to optimize terms for timely revenue recognition

Project Life Cycle Maintenance

• Review re-estimated budgets for compliance with contract terms
• Validate completeness of contract change order documentation
• Enforce compliance with revenue policy to ensure accurate percentage-of-completion recognition under ASC 606
• Collaborate cross-functionally with billing, engagement teams, legal, and operations to resolve issues identified during project life cycle maintenance and closure reviews

Communication, Customer Service, and Relationship Management

• Work directly with professional services sales leadership
• Communicate complex accounting concepts clearly and concisely
• Prepare executive-level summaries for leadership using knowledge of revenue policy and historical trends
• Demonstrate a customer service focus and contribute to team goals
• Escalate unresolved issues with sound judgment

Financial Systems Continuous Improvement

• Contribute ideas and system requirements to IT configuration partners
• Participate in designing new business and accounting requirements within the revenue sub-ledger system
• Perform testing in development environments to ensure system improvements function as intended and reports accurately reflect transactions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (B.A. or B.S.)
• Minimum 2 years of public accounting experience or 4+ years in accounting/finance roles
• Experience reviewing contractual agreements for financial terms
• Operational accounting, revenue analysis, or financial analysis experience is a plus
• Experience in consulting services industry is highly desirable
• Knowledge and experience applying GAAP, including revenue recognition and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
• Experience with financial ERP systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with client contract review and revenue accounting preferred
• Experience working in a high-volume, operational accounting environment preferred
• CPA certification is a plus
• Ability to quickly learn new concepts, systems, and technology
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Strong customer service orientation
