Sr. Accountant - Contractor

Overview

A Senior Accountant (independent contractor) with expertise in Sage Intacct is sought to join a Client Accounting Advisory Services (CAAS) team. This role involves providing strategic accounting advice, mentoring staff accountants, and managing client engagements in a fast-paced, global environment. The position requires strong leadership and collaboration skills to support client success, though it does not include direct reports.

The Senior Accountant will oversee month-end close processes, client onboarding, and financial system implementations using tools such as FloQast, Sage Intacct, and other cloud-based ERP solutions. The role focuses on optimizing financial processes, ensuring accurate reporting, and delivering data-driven financial insights.

This fully remote position reports to the Team Manager(s) and is open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Global Support

• Operate within a global framework supporting teams across Canada, South Africa, the U.K., and the U.S.
• Participate in virtual meetings across multiple time zones and adapt to varying schedules.
• Facilitate communication and coordination across CAAS teams to enhance sales operational efficiency.
• Maintain scheduling flexibility for time-sensitive tasks and cross-regional collaboration.

Advanced Accounting & Financial Analysis

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and forecasts.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and maintain audit-ready financial records.
• Utilize FloQast for close management, reconciliation tracking, and workflow automation.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

• Act as a trusted financial advisor providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
• Lead client onboarding and Sage Intacct implementations.
• Provide fractional Controller-level support with strategic financial insights.
• Assist with accounting system implementations and migrations.
• Conduct systems analysis to optimize clients’ use of Sage Intacct.
• Deliver tailored client training on Sage Intacct.
• Conduct quarterly financial reviews to improve client business performance.

Client Engagement & Project Contribution

• Maintain minimum billable hours as defined by leadership.
• Recommend improvements for clients’ HR and payroll efficiency.
• Collaborate with sales and account management teams to align deliverables.
• Identify opportunities for service expansion and added client value.

Technology & Operational Efficiency

• Use Sage Intacct and QuickBooks Online for financial reporting and process optimization.
• Implement best practices including automation, process standardization, and internal controls.
• Support financial technology integration projects.
• Assist with payroll processing and compliance.
• Optimize reconciliation and close processes using FloQast, QuickBooks Online, and Sage Intacct.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and stay current with industry trends.

Senior Mentorship

• Mentor Staff Accountants with technical expertise and career development support.
• Review work for accuracy and adherence to best practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, and other cloud financial tools.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate across departments to enhance service offerings.

Internal Collaboration & Process Alignment

• Participate in global accounting meetings to ensure process consistency and compliance.
• Work cross-functionally with operations and finance teams.
• Assist in audit schedules, tax filings, and compliance documentation.
• Support leadership with financial data and reporting for decision-making.

Requirements

• 10+ years of accounting experience as Senior Accountant, Senior Staff Accountant, or Senior Controller, preferably in outsourced accounting, advisory services, or CPA firms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA eligibility preferred (or 12+ years relevant experience in lieu of degree).
• Proficiency in Sage Intacct, including core financial modules, financial reporting, multi-entity environments, and advanced workflows.
• Experience using FloQast for close management, reconciliation tracking, and workflow automation.
• Strong technical expertise in multi-entity, multi-currency accounting.
• Experience with payroll, sales tax filings, and financial audits.
• Strong analytical and proactive problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

• Background in SaaS, outsourced accounting, or financial consulting.
• Familiarity with ERP implementations and financial technology integrations.
• Experience in client-facing financial advisory roles.

Work Environment

• Work may be performed remotely or in an open office setting.
• Ability to travel onsite as needed based on business and management requirements.
• Full-time position requiring flexible and regular full-time schedule.
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
