Salary Range: $95,000 - $130,000

This role offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement depending on your location within the continental US:

  • If located within 50 miles of the offices in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, the role is hybrid, requiring at least 60% in-office work with the remainder remote.
  • If located more than 50 miles from these offices, the role is remote with occasional office visits as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform SOX testing and maintain timely SOX documentation to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Analyze and research accounting treatments for new investment vehicles.
  • Complete investment general accounting activities accurately and on schedule.
  • Interpret, analyze, and implement new FASB and SSAP regulations relevant to the Investment Department; collaborate with the Accounting Policy team on appropriate treatments.
  • Delegate assignments, review and approve work, and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Identify process improvements and make recommendations impacting management decisions and team performance.
  • Analyze complex investment data; prepare internal and external reports including SEC and stockholders’ reports; present conclusions and recommendations to management.
  • Lead or participate in project teams or committees for strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead or assist in accounting and reporting of real estate owned (REOs) investments.
  • Identify and resolve transaction discrepancies; provide detailed variance explanations; maintain accurate regulatory filings.
  • Develop, analyze, and implement accounting procedures in collaboration with Japan Investment Accounting, Investment Tax, and IT teams to optimize systems and processes.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with business partners as a key point of contact.
  • Collaborate with Investment Accounting leadership to track departmental goal progress.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture by developing and tracking KPIs, executing improvement recommendations, and driving effective daily meetings.
  • Develop and maintain reports to enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, including supporting other investment accounting areas during turnover or projects.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; VBA/macro experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP, BW, Workiva, or similar accounting/financial software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and FASB standards, especially related to insurance and investment accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial systems user applications (SAP preferred), and complex system concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis, reporting, and process improvement.
  • Competencies in consulting, change management, quality, and project management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Six years of professional experience in investments or related accounting/reporting.
  • Experience managing projects or implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent certifications or training.

Travel

  • Up to 10% travel required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $95,000 - $130,000, with offers based on factors including education, experience, certifications, location, and peer compensation.
  • Salary range excludes potential incentive pay or benefits.
