Staff Accountant

Overview

This role supports the organization’s growth-focused reinsurance division by ensuring accurate accounting and administration of reinsurance agreements. You will collaborate with reinsurer staff, clients, finance staff, auditors, and internal teams to help execute reinsurance transactions properly and support financial reporting through accurate data and clear stakeholder communications.

Responsibilities

• Record daily deposits and reconcile entries for reinsurance activity, ensuring accuracy and compliance with treaty terms.
• Maintain spreadsheets tracking deposits, claims fund tracking, and financial reporting.
• Perform timely and accurate recording, reporting, and matching of billings in accordance with reinsurance agreements.
• Identify and resolve reconciliation issues related to reinsurance activities, coordinating corrective actions as needed.
• Manage client, reinsurer, and internal stakeholder communications, including collaboration with claims, actuarial, and finance teams.
• Support audits by preparing relevant financial documentation and responding to audit queries.
• Assist the Reinsurance Accounting Supervisor with process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy of reinsurance accounting operations.
• Back up the Accounting (senior) role for payables and month-end processing when needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and experience using accounting software.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with close attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Self-starter with a professional, assertive approach to problem-solving.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range

• $65,000 - $65,000 Annual
