Overview

A professional services firm is seeking a Manager to join their Technical Accounting team within the CFO Advisory practice. This role supports CFOs of startups to upper middle market companies by helping navigate strategic, operational, and accounting challenges, including preparation for public or private transactions and collaboration with M&A teams.

This is a remote position; however, occasional presence at an office may be required for client work, team meetings, or training sessions with scheduled notice.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and prepare external SEC financial statements and filing processes, including drafting financial statements, equity roll forwards, EPS calculations, footnotes, and Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A).
  • Complete SEC and GAAP checklists for quarterly reviewed and annually audited financial statements, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Oversee technical accounting research and documentation related to new accounting guidance, policies, and procedures impacting client financial statements.
  • Monitor activities of accounting standard-setting bodies such as FASB, IASB, SEC, and PCAOB; analyze accounting and reporting effects of new standards.
  • Research accounting and disclosure requirements for new standards and transactions, assessing their impact on client accounting policies and financial documents.
  • Collaborate with clients and external auditors to gather information, coordinate reviews, prepare support files, challenge disclosures, and complete relevant checklists and questionnaires.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and participate in all aspects of external public company reporting.
  • Organize and communicate status updates related to assignments and projects.
  • Engage proactively in business development activities, including expanding client relationships, evaluating new market opportunities, and building relationships on behalf of the firm.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting or a related accounting field.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and reconciling consolidated financial data accurately and timely.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting policies and procedures at the transaction level.
  • Direct experience with SEC reporting (Regulation S-X and S-K) and preparation of financial statements and footnotes for public companies.
  • Experience developing and addressing accounting issues with relevant guidance, application, and judgment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • At least 3 years of relevant leadership experience; experience at Big 4 or large regional firms preferred.
  • Experience leading teams and managing multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with SEC reporting tools such as Workiva (WDesk) or similar.
  • Experience working with general ledger systems and reporting packages.
  • Active CPA, CA, or equivalent certification.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range in New York: $110,000 to $175,000 for the Manager role.

Location

  • Remote position with potential occasional office presence as needed.
  • Candidates should be located within a commutable distance to an office or able to travel as required.
