Overview
This role supports the organization’s TPA (third-party administration) business by ensuring accurate financial close processes, compliant revenue recognition, strong controls, and reliable reporting.
Responsibilities
- Own the close: Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close for key areas of the TPA entity, including preparing and posting journal entries, completing account reconciliations and accruals, and uploading data in the ERP according to the close calendar.
- Ensure US GAAP compliance: Execute close activities in line with US GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Apply ASC 606 to TPA contracts: Identify performance obligations in TPA service contracts and evaluate variable consideration, including performance guarantees and fees at risk, to ensure revenue is recognized correctly.
- Track performance guarantee exposure: Account for related client credits and communicate potential financial impact ahead of quarter-end.
- Reconcile and audit large data sets: Tie out data across the ERP, TPA systems, and third-party reports; resolve discrepancies before they reach the financials.
- Investigate root causes: Partner with system and operations teams to identify and resolve discrepancies, then implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support compliance and licensing: Prepare TPA financials for license renewal and for regulatory and fiduciary account requirements.
- Build and maintain controls: Document processes, controls, systems, and workflows to ensure work is clear, repeatable, and audit-ready.
- Drive the annual audit: Prepare gross-to-net adjustments, supply backup documentation, respond to audit requests, and close out open items.
- Partner with Tax: Coordinate on sales/use tax, legal entity financials, and other tax inputs to ensure Tax has required information when needed.
- Streamline and automate: Identify and lead opportunities to simplify reconciliations, reduce manual effort and errors, and automate recurring work.
