Overview

This role involves shaping how financial insight drives decision-making across a national securities exchange organization. Reporting to the CFO/COO, the Vice President of Finance strengthens financial reporting and planning, improves visibility into performance and resource needs, and helps senior leaders navigate business decisions with clarity.

The position is broad and hands-on, blending deep financial expertise with ownership of models, processes, and insights needed for effective operations and future planning. You will work closely with the Senior Accountant and leaders across the organization, with influence to evolve the finance function as the business grows.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain overall accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of enterprise financial statements, including reviewing financial statements and supporting schedules prepared through the accounting function.
  • Set enterprise close requirements and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end close results; partner with the Senior Accountant and CFO/COO to resolve significant accounting issues and ensure timely completion.
  • Lead the annual financial statement audits, coordinating audit strategy, issue resolution, and communications with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
  • Own the quarterly intercompany calculations; review supporting schedules and entries prepared through the accounting function.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, documentation, and internal controls over financial reporting; update them as the business and regulatory obligations evolve.
  • Own budget-to-actual reporting and analysis, identifying significant variances, emerging trends, and recommended actions.
  • Partner with the CFO/COO to drive the annual budgeting process, working directly with departments to integrate budgets into an enterprise-wide financial view.
  • Develop and maintain the comprehensive enterprise-wide long-term financial model, incorporating business plans, operating assumptions, strategic priorities, and financial risks.
  • Lead enterprise re-forecasting and scenario planning, providing leaders with a current view of expected financial performance and resource needs.
  • Lead enterprise-wide expense management by establishing reporting, monitoring spending, evaluating tradeoffs, and working with department leaders to maintain financial discipline.
  • Provide concise financial analyses and recommendations to the CFO/COO and other senior leaders to support operating and long-term planning decisions.
  • Support the CFO/COO in preparing financial materials for boards and board committees, including analysis of results, outlook, risks, and management actions.
  • Establish standards, controls, and operating expectations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, payroll-related finance activities, and other core accounting processes; partner with the Senior Accountant to ensure these activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Authorize vendor invoices and cash disbursements in accordance with company policies and delegated authority.
  • Manage relationships with external tax accountants and maintain accountability for federal, state, local, and sales tax compliance, with support from the Senior Accountant.
  • Lead the annual 409A valuation process and review stock-based compensation records and accounting entries.
  • Manage the company capitalization table in partnership with the operations team, ensuring transactions and records are accurate, current, and properly documented.
  • Set shared finance priorities with the Senior Accountant; provide technical direction, review key deliverables, and maintain clear ownership across accounting operations and enterprise financial planning.
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and controls to increase accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and visibility while reducing manual work.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, Operations, and other functions to identify and address financial, operational, and compliance risks.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, technical accounting, close management, audits, tax coordination, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain integrated financial models and lead budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and variance analysis across multiple entities or business lines.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to translate detailed financial information into practical recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Ability to independently lead complex, enterprise-wide work, set priorities, resolve ambiguity, and deliver accurate results in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing clear materials for senior executives, boards, and board committees.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to establish accountability and drive outcomes without formal reporting authority.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, sound professional skepticism, and impeccable integrity.
  • Hands-on, service-oriented approach, with willingness to move between strategic analysis and detailed execution as business needs require.

Education & Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible finance and accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Senior Controller, or senior finance leader with responsibility for financial reporting and planning; public company experience preferred.
  • Experience with GAAP and non-GAAP financial reporting and complex technical accounting matters.
