Overview
This role is responsible for day-to-day financial operations, with ownership of key accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management, and vendor administration. You will also support bordereau assembly, carrier payment and claims payments processing under the Controller’s authority, audit administration, statutory reporting, and ongoing financial reporting.
In addition, you will help drive automation across accounting operations by building and using agents to streamline reconciliations, payment processing, and routine bookkeeping workflows.
Responsibilities
Own Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Expense Management, and Vendor Administration
- Own premium accounts receivable from brokers end-to-end, including invoicing and installment billing, cash application against policies and endorsements, and aging and collections follow-up to ensure timely, accurate collection and application of premium owed.
- Own reconciliation of broker premium remittances into the premium trust account, clearing unapplied cash before it ages and escalating past-due balances and write-off candidates to the Controller.
- Own execution of spend-management automation, including full accounts payable automation, invoice coding, and card-spend policy enforcement.
- Own employee expense reimbursement administration, establishing the standard for review before sign-off by the Controller.
- Own vendor records and documentation, including W-9 collection, and manage relationships behind recurring vendor and brokerage-fee payments.
- Own recurring program-level reimbursement invoicing end-to-end, from calculation through submission.
Support Bordereau, Carrier Payment Operations, and Claims Payments
- Prepare bordereau assembly and support premium reconciliation across carrier and reinsurance relationships, resolving discrepancies before they reach the Controller.
- Maintain the carrier payment calendar, prioritizing and resolving issues against each carrier’s timing requirements for Controller approval.
- Prepare monthly loss fund reporting to carrier partners, including bank-to-book reconciliation, top-up requests, and check registers; resolve variances directly with carrier contacts.
- Execute claims payments from loss fund accounts under the Controller’s payment authority, partnering with the Claims team on payment timing and exceptions.
Support Audit Administration
- Administer the annual company audit response process, carrier audit financial requests, and the R&D tax credit workflow (compiling documentation, drafting responses, and managing the deadline calendar), while the Controller leads auditor and tax-advisor relationships.
- Support statutory (STAT) reporting cadence and regulatory filings for the insurance company by providing underlying data and documentation needed for statutory close.
- Maintain and continuously improve the accounting due dates calendar.
Support Financial Reporting
- Prepare and distribute recurring carrier partner reporting packages (unaudited financials, cash position summaries, and other standard deliverables) on a monthly and quarterly basis for Controller review and sign-off.
- Partner with the Controller on evaluating and coordinating contractor, vendor, or offshore support as the accounting function grows.
Drive Agentic Automation Across Accounting Operations
- Build and use agents to automate premium receivable cash application, bordereau assembly, premium reconciliation, and claims payment processing.
- Feed clean, structured financial data and workflows into the organization’s intelligence system.
- Identify where agents can replace manual work versus where human judgment remains required, partnering with the technical platform team to build and continuously improve those workflows.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally at a high-growth company; insurance, insurtech, or fintech experience is a plus but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles), with comfort operating within a regulated, multi-entity insurance business.
- Demonstrated track record of owning and improving accounting processes end-to-end (not only executing tasks).
- Hands-on experience with an accounting system/ERP (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar) and an AP/spend platform (Ramp, Bill.com, or similar).
- Demonstrated track record of using AI tools or agents to redesign reconciliations, payment processing, and routine bookkeeping.
- Comfort managing recurring payments, reconciliations, and deadline-driven filings across multiple systems and counterparties, including direct communication with banks, brokers, carriers, tax agencies, and auditors.
- High attention to detail and a bias toward getting the numbers right the first time.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with ability to represent the organization directly with broker, carrier, and audit contacts.
- Progress toward or interest in pursuing a CPA is a plus, not required.
