Overview
This is a project-based engagement for a Senior Accountant and process optimization expert supporting a large international Managing General Agent (MGA). Working directly with finance leadership, you will join a distributed U.S. accounting group to resolve complex reconciliations, modernize the month-end close, and improve legacy workflows through automation and AI.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the claims accounting area, including complex catch-up work, resolving historical discrepancies, and establishing clean go-forward processes for premium trust and claims funding.
- Shadow and support month-end close and day-to-day operations to map current workflows, identify bottlenecks, and recommend efficiency improvements in data flows between the MGA and carrier partners.
- Use advanced Excel, automation tools, and AI capabilities (such as Copilot Pro) to reduce manual data entry and streamline cross-system reporting, including high-volume bank reconciliations and bordereaux reporting.
- Partner with finance leadership by providing technical accounting context and driving continuous improvement across teams located in San Diego, Dallas, New York, and North Carolina.
What This Role Is Not
- Not pure staff augmentation; the team already has clerical and day-to-day execution resources. The focus is on challenging how work is done.
- Not basic bookkeeping; the work includes complex MGA accounting, historical catch-ups, and legacy process cleanup.
- Not order-taking; the role requires proactive identification of inefficiencies, questioning existing processes, and proposing solutions.
Requirements
- Deep insurance sector experience, including specific knowledge of MGA/delegated authority models, premium trust accounting, and carrier reporting (a major advantage).
- Strong understanding of complex accounting frameworks, with the ability to untangle legacy reconciliation issues.
- Proven experience optimizing finance and accounting workflows.
- Highly proficient in Excel, with demonstrated ability to apply automation or AI tools to finance workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA/CA (preferred).
- Formal training in Lean Six Sigma (a plus, not required).

- Location & hours: Remote. Must be onshore or fully capable of aligning with U.S. working hours, with a strong preference for West Coast hours.
