Overview
This organization is seeking an Accounting Manager, Operations & Transformation to serve as a critical partner to the Financial Controller and help build the next version of the Accounting function.

- Managing external accounting, payroll, and tax partners
- Strengthening cash and payroll controls
- Coordinating recurring tax compliance
- Supporting Finance-side 401(k) administration
- Redesigning manual processes into scalable, well-documented workflows
- Maintaining internal governance, review, final approval, and accountability for payroll-related accounting (payroll processing is supported by a specialist provider)
You will also drive transformation over time:
-
Within 1 month:

- Own payroll and 401(k) governance, including review of variances and exceptions and coordination of plan administration and issue resolution
- Build cross-functional partnerships across Finance, People, Operations, Supply Chain, and external accounting/payroll partners
- Assess close timing, recurring rework/manual touchpoints, critical reconciliations, and highest-risk payroll/cash/control processes
-
Within 3 months:
- Lead the monthly close cadence, review standards, issue escalation, and timely completion of accurate, audit-ready workpapers
- Own tax compliance coordination across monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings, reconciliations, remittances, registrations, and notices; coordinate federal and state income tax filing support with external advisers; partner with the R&D team on credit tracking and documentation; resolve payroll withholding matters outside payroll platform/external provider scope
- Strengthen cash and payment controls, including authorized approvals, improved dual-control coverage, and documented backup procedures for critical treasury activities
- Launch the transformation roadmap by prioritizing processes that shorten the close, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy; begin automation/workflow improvements
-
After 6 months:
- Improve close efficiency by reducing days to close and the manual effort/rework/coordination required for month-end
- Deliver measurable automation, implementing at least three meaningful process or automation improvements with evidence of time saved, fewer errors, or reduced rework
- Build reliable tax operations with clear ownership, documented procedures, and audit-ready support across recurring tax filings, remittances, registrations, notices, income tax requests, and R&D credit reporting
- Raise external-provider performance by improving accuracy, documentation, timeliness, and reviewability while reducing issues requiring Controller intervention
- Build resilient operations by maintaining dependable coverage across payroll, cash, payments, 401(k), close, and other critical Accounting activities, and help shape the long-term balance of internal ownership, specialist support, and technology-enabled workflows
