Accounting specialist

Overview

This role involves managing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) for multiple locations, ensuring accurate financial records and controls. The specialist assists with month-end closing tasks, verifies and approves invoices, handles cash transactions, and maintains financial data integrity. Responsibilities also include reconciling credit card transactions, processing purchase orders, supporting tax compliance, collaborating with external partners on financial workflows, assisting with audits, and improving processes for efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for 2-3 locations
• Maintain accurate accounting records and controls across multiple sites
• Assist the Assistant Controller with month-end closing tasks for all regional locations
• Ensure data integrity of master files within applicable systems
• Verify and approve invoices daily
• Post all non-lockbox AR and cash transactions including ACH, manual checks, and deposits
• Prepare and record journal entries as requested
• Complete financial coding and reconciliation of credit card transactions
• Release routine financial reporting for multiple sites as assigned
• Process purchase orders and receipts within the ERP system
• Collaborate with outsourced partners on ERP and financial system workflows
• Assist with the annual 1099 production process
• Perform reconciliations for AP, AR, payroll, and banking
• Apply knowledge of inventory control, variance analysis, and reconciliation
• Develop and submit documentation for local, state, and federal tax filings and compliance
• Implement procedural improvements to optimize financial processes
• Manage intercompany transactions
• Support internal and external audit activities

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of experience in an accounting or finance role
• Experience working in organizations with 250-500+ employees, $50M-$100M+ in revenue, and multi-site/multi-entity operations

Reporting and Location

• Reports to the Assistant Controller
• Position is remote with a strong preference for candidates based in or near the Cleveland, OH area
• While daily work is remote, occasional in-person meetings or collaborative sessions may be required
