Overview

This role supports reliable month-end and year-end financial close processes and ensures reporting compliance as the finance organization grows.

The position is based either in Munich, Germany or Remote/Europe. You will lead the General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Inventory, and Accounts Payable team, starting with six direct reports and expanding as insourcing begins. The team’s scope will evolve over time, and the role will help shape how accounting operates within the organization.

You will report to the Head of Accounting and Tax and act as the operational link between the team and the Head of Accounting and Tax.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and track the month-end and year-end closing schedule to ensure Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and the General Ledger close accurately and on time.

  • Lead the team by allocating tasks, setting team goals, and balancing workload to prevent bottlenecks.
  • Create onboarding materials and documentation for new hires and provide ongoing feedback that informs formal performance reviews.
  • Manage day-to-day coordination with the outsourced Shared Service Center.
  • Review tax reporting, including Intrastat and SAF-T, for the organization and its branches.
  • Address recurring delays or quality issues with the service provider.
  • Prepare consolidated preliminary financial statements.
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for auditors, compiling working papers, schedules, and requested data.
  • Review, update, and draft SOPs and accounting manuals as workflows change.
  • Monitor compliance with corporate policies, tax and accounting regulations, and internal controls, including segregation of duties.
  • Ensure timely implementation of new and amended accounting standards, particularly IFRS.
  • Drive the rollout of e-invoicing requirements across European countries together with the tax team.
  • Support cross-department projects, including SAP automation and CSRD reporting.

Requirements

  • Degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification such as certified accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter), or comparable professional experience.
  • Solid professional accounting experience, ideally gained in an audit firm or in an international European environment.
  • Proven experience leading an accounting team.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating external service providers or shared service centers.
  • Deep understanding of IFRS and accounting processes across all areas.
  • Strong English reading and speaking skills.
  • Strong MS Office and Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP knowledge, ideally S/4HANA (public cloud).
  • Knowledge of German GAAP (HGB).
  • Experience with multi-entity structures or branch reporting.
  • Knowledge of LucaNet.
  • German reading and speaking skills.
