Billing Specialist II

Overview

This position is responsible for billing processes for newspapers owned by the organization. Duties include ad rating, billing, custom contracts, special pricing, contract entry, and adjustments.

Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in Colorado or Ohio.

Responsibilities

• For assigned properties, generate advertising billing files and ensure the accuracy of data prior to submission
• Perform month-end processing
• Serve as a subject-matter expert in ad rating (Mactive system)
• Work “wrong rate” and “rating error” queues in Mactive, releasing ads to print
• Review the accuracy of contracts and rates entered by the SSC
• Act as the key contact for local advertising departments for billing issues
• Transmit statement files to Shoom for eInvoicing
• Research and troubleshoot billing issues from properties and internal inquiries
• Train new employees on the system and data entry
• Support testing and research for projects or system upgrades
• Assist with unapplied payments (adjustments)

Requirements

• Accounting process and controls knowledge
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions (including process, policy, and procedure manuals), correspondence, and financial documents
• Demonstrated ability to create Excel spreadsheets using formulas as needed
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Self-initiative, good interpersonal skills, attention to detail, team collaboration skills, and a customer-focused mindset
• Knowledge of automated billing systems (Mactive and/or PBS system preferred)
• Minimum education: an Associate’s degree or two years’ experience within the organization

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business and/or a combination of college education and experience

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly range: $20.50 - $21.50
• Pay is based on several factors including geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc.
