Construction Financial Controller (100% remote)

Overview

This role involves serving as a Controller responsible for managing all aspects of client accounting operations within a commercial construction-focused accounting firm. The position requires close collaboration with staff accountants to ensure financial accuracy and professionalism. The Controller will have full ownership of financial statements and Work In Progress (WIP) reports, maintaining the integrity, timeliness, and reliability of client financial data. This is a 100% remote position offering autonomy and clear performance expectations.

Responsibilities

• Own financial reporting processes, including WIP management
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes
• Oversee various accounting functions
• Participate in regular meeting cadences
• Communicate with third parties such as banks, CPAs, and surety professionals
• Build and maintain long-term client relationships
• Train and collaborate with team members
• Manage month-end close processes and internal controls
• Prepare and adjust journal entries
• Review team members’ work and provide constructive coaching
• Lead client meetings providing financial insights
• Assist with financial audits and reviews

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
• At least 2 years of construction-specific accounting experience
• Accounting degree required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Capability to manage multiple clients in a fast-paced setting
• Proficiency with Excel and GSuite
• Excellent client service skills
• Leadership and team management abilities
