Construction Financial Controller (100% remote)

Overview

This role involves serving as a Controller responsible for managing all aspects of client accounting operations within a specialty firm focused on commercial construction organizations. The position requires close collaboration with staff accountants to ensure exceptional service and maintain high standards of financial accuracy and professionalism. The Controller will have full ownership of financial statements and Work In Progress (WIP) reports, ensuring integrity, timeliness, and reliability of client financial data. This is a 100% remote position offering a high level of autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Own financial reporting processes, including WIP reporting
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes
• Oversee other accounting functions and team members
• Manage month-end close process and controls
• Prepare and adjust journal entries
• Review team members’ work and provide constructive coaching
• Lead client meetings with financial insights
• Assist with financial audits and reviews
• Communicate with third parties such as banks, CPAs, and surety professionals
• Maintain regular meeting cadences
• Build and maintain long-lasting client relationships
• Train and collaborate with team members

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
• At least 2 years of construction-specific accounting experience
• Accounting degree required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work remotely and independently
• Ability to manage multiple clients in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Excel and GSuite
• Excellent client service skills
• Ability to manage and lead a team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with percentage of completion accounting
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach
