Overview
This role is a key in-house leadership position owning the accounting function end-to-end, while partnering with the CFO, Director of FP&A, external auditors, and an outsourced accounting partner. The organization is progressing toward progressively bringing accounting in-house as it matures.
You will lead chart of accounts design, month-end close, technical accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, 409A valuations and equity compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness.
Responsibilities
- Operate as an accounting leader focused on business needs: design accounting processes that support both GAAP rigor and decision-making by the executive team.
- Drive and maintain the chart of accounts (COA) as a strategic asset, structured to support audit-ready GAAP reporting and FP&A needs, including analytics, segmentation (by program, channel, BU, cohort), and forecasting.
- Set and drive the monthly close standard, aiming for the fastest AI-assisted close (day 5) sustainably across AR, AP, payroll, GL, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany.
- Lead technical accounting:
- Ensure GAAP compliance in revenue recognition for the care model.
- Ensure stock-based compensation accounting under ASC 718 and address all other non-routine transactions.
- Draft robust, defensible accounting policies and memos for technical accounting issues.
- Deliver decision-grade reporting by producing monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc financial reports that support FP&A forecasts and board narratives; use AI tooling to draft commentary, summarize variances, and accelerate analysis without compromising rigor or controls.
- Own tax compliance in partnership with an external tax firm, including:
- Federal, state, and local filings
- Corporate income tax, sales/use tax, payroll tax, multi-state nexus, R&D tax credits, and franchise tax
- Manage the external tax firm relationship, calendar, and quality of results
- Lead 409A valuations and equity compliance:
- Manage annual and event-driven 409A processes with the valuation firm
- Coordinate with legal on equity issuances and ISO/NSO mechanics
- Own ASC 718 stock comp expense accounting and equity-related disclosures
- Build controls and own audit readiness:
- Design and document scalable internal controls
- Build a SOX-ready posture
- Prepare workpapers, manage the external auditor relationship, and support a clean audit
- Manage the operating finance layer by overseeing the outsourced accounting relationship, driving quality, SLAs, and progressive insourcing.

- Chart of accounts design experience, including having designed or rebuilt a COA and being able to defend design choices to auditors and FP&A.
- Deep technical accounting fluency, including demonstrated experience leading conclusions on ASC 606, ASC 842, and ASC 718.
- Tax compliance experience managing federal, state, and local tax filings directly or via an external tax firm, including sales/use tax, R&D credits, multi-state nexus, and payroll tax.
- 409A and equity accounting experience:
- Managed at least one 409A valuation cycle end-to-end
- Own ASC 718 stock comp accounting
- Working knowledge of Carta or an equivalent equity platform
