The firm’s clients are primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area technology sector, with many being first-generation Indian immigrants facing complex US tax issues related to equity compensation, charitable planning, real estate, and cross-border family financial planning. This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day client advisory meetings, including preparing planning analyses, equity-compensation deep dives, and year-end tax-strategy sessions.
  • Explain complex tax positions clearly and partner with the CEO on high-stakes client conversations.
  • Handle inbound prospect qualification calls, assessing fit based on income, business structure, complexity, and geography; book qualified prospects for CEO follow-up.
  • Manage the firm’s knowledge-operations infrastructure, including strategy calculators, content, AI-avatar knowledge base, and supporting tools.
  • Oversee project management for a distributed production team, breaking down deliverables, assigning tasks, setting deadlines, tracking progress, and certifying output accuracy.
  • Serve as the firm’s internal technical authority, reviewing aggressive tax strategies and coordinating with outside tax controversy counsel on complex issues.
  • Review tax returns for quality control, focusing on non-routine deductions, complex equity compensation, and aggressive positions.
  • Manage compliance related to Forms 8283, 8275, 8918, and the firm’s workpaper protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Active US CPA license or US Enrolled Agent (EA) credential (CPA preferred).
  • 5 to 10 years of US tax experience with demonstrated expertise in advanced individual taxation for high-income professionals.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, able to explain complex tax concepts in plain English.
  • Proven project management experience leading end-to-end content or product builds with distributed teams.
  • Authorized to work in the United States as a W-2 employee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LLM in Taxation or law degree.
  • Experience at Big 4 or comparable US-tax-focused practice.
  • Prior consulting or advisory firm experience with client intake or prospect qualification.
  • Direct experience with high-net-worth tax planning or M&A tax.
  • Subject-matter expertise in areas including:
    • Charitable contributions (Sections 170, 170(m), 170(e))
    • Equity-compensation taxation (Sections 83, 83(b), 421-423, 409A, ISO/AMT interaction, ESPP qualifying dispositions)
    • Partnership pass-through strategies (Subchapter K basics)
    • Real estate tax (Sections 469, 1031, cost segregation, STR loophole)
    • Preparer standards (Section 6694) and Circular 230 (Sections 10.34, 10.37)
  • Ability to write clear client memos and technical memos for outside counsel.
  • Familiarity with US tax issues common to first-generation Indian-immigrant professionals, including NRI/RNOR/ROR status, India-US Totalization, repatriation, and dual-residency family structures.
  • Experience with TaxDome, ProConnect, TaxGPT, TaxPlanIQ/Instead, or similar tax planning software.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive US base salary.
  • $5,000 per year tax-free health coverage reimbursement through a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA).
  • Participation in a Safe Harbor 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match, fully vested immediately.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and company-paid holidays in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Annual professional development budget of $3,000 to $5,000 for continuing education, conferences, tax research software, and professional resources.

Performance Metrics

The Director will be evaluated annually based on:

  • Client retention rate weighted by client revenue.
  • Knowledge operations deliverable throughput, including calculators shipped and content published.
  • Quality of strategy reviews, aiming for zero IRS examination findings, no malpractice exposure, and clean outside-counsel handoffs.

Quarterly check-ins with the CEO will assess progress and recalibrate goals.

Growth Path

This is a long-term, career-track role with expected portfolio expansion over years 2 and 3, potentially including leading additional team members and assuming greater strategic responsibilities. Title progression and equity participation will be discussed at the Year 2 review based on performance and firm growth.

  • Employment is at-will.
  • Fully remote, open to candidates across the United States; no relocation required.

  • Coordination with a Philippines-based production team will involve asynchronous communication across time zones.
