Overview
This hybrid, builder-focused role owns accounting and close activities while also establishing budgeting, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure. You will be responsible for financial modeling that informs decisions on SKU strategy, retail pricing, and channel expansion.
You will report to the CEO and collaborate closely with the Head of Data.
Responsibilities
- Own full-charge bookkeeping, monthly close, and accurate financial statement preparation.
- Establish COGS tracking by channel and product.
- Build and maintain company-wide budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting.
- Design and maintain a retail-specific contribution margin model, including distribution, trade marketing, slotting, and other retail cost structures distinct from DTC.
- Partner with the founding team on financial logic behind retail expansion decisions, including pricing, door count, and SKU selection.
- Establish labor cost and budget tracking by business unit, tied to marketing efficiency metrics (CAC, LTV, MER).
- Lay the groundwork for how the finance function will scale as scope expands, including team build-out.
Requirements
- Strong accounting fundamentals; able to own the books and month-end close independently as the company’s first dedicated finance hire.
- Experience owning FP&A at a growth-stage consumer/DTC brand, ideally as an early or founding finance hire.
- Direct experience modeling retail unit economics; understands that retail success is determined by velocity and margin (not price matching).
- Comfort building and formalizing infrastructure and processes across both accounting and FP&A.
- Proven ability to communicate financial complexity in terms non-finance stakeholders can act on.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience modeling the blend of DTC vs. wholesale margins.
- Demonstrated ability to structure cash flow and inventory forecasting for rapid scaling and product reorder cycles.
Working Hours
- REMOTE-FIRST & ASYNCHRONOUS.
- Requires strong overlap with US business hours (Central Time Zone / CST preferred) due to weekly and monthly payment cycle dependencies for real-time troubleshooting, banking approvals, and communication.
