Overview

A rapidly growing eCommerce organization is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst, Merchandising Analytics. This strategic role serves as a key thought partner at the intersection of finance, data, and commercial decision-making. The successful candidate will own high-visibility analytical programs that directly influence pricing strategies, assortment investments, and category portfolio decisions. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this position collaborates closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, and FP&A. Insights provided will help shape multi-million dollar business strategies, improve profitability, and drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analytical programs influencing pricing, assortment, and category management strategies.
  • Develop and maintain scalable analytical infrastructure using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and Excel to support business insights.
  • Design and execute complex financial models to evaluate price-volume-margin (PVM), margin scenarios, inventory economics, and category profitability.
  • Establish and enforce merchandising finance frameworks, including pricing policies, margin floors, and ROI standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate analytical findings into strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Partner with Merchandising, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to optimize spend, demand elasticity, and inventory positioning.
  • Provide insights on SKU, brand, and assortment launches, including performance forecasting and post-launch analysis.
  • Evaluate marketing ROI and incrementality to inform budget allocation and promotional strategies.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of retail and eCommerce economics to inform analytical approaches and business strategies.
  • Promote a data-driven culture by creating self-service tools and reporting systems that elevate analytical capabilities across teams.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or merchandising finance within retail or eCommerce sectors.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain enterprise-grade analytical systems using SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, and advanced Excel.
  • Strong background in complex financial modeling, including PVM analysis, margin scenario planning, and category profitability assessments.
  • Experience defining and governing merchandising finance frameworks, including pricing guardrails and ROI standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear strategic recommendations for executive stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with SKU, brand, and assortment launches, including margin modeling and scenario planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing spend analytics, incrementality measurement, and ROI evaluation.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Snowflake for large-scale data extraction, transformation, and self-service analytics.
  • Understanding of retail or omnichannel finance, inventory management, and SKU economics.
  • Preferred experience working in a fast-paced eCommerce or retail environment with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
