Overview

A growing technology company is seeking a Financial Controller to lead and transform its accounting function. This role involves modernizing financial reporting systems, implementing full US GAAP rigor, and building a lean, automated finance organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will own the integrity of financial reporting and drive a finance transformation aligned with the company’s next growth phase.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Close

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, delivering accurate and timely consolidated financial statements.
  • Oversee the general ledger, technical accounting, and financial reporting, including revenue recognition for domains, renewals, hosting subscriptions, and marketplace/auction transactions.
  • Handle deferred revenue, multi-currency, and intercompany accounting.
  • Manage accounting across diverse payment methods such as cards, PayPal, cryptocurrency, and bank transfers, reconciling high-volume, low-value transactions.
  • Design and maintain an internal controls framework across multiple entities, currencies, and jurisdictions appropriate to the company’s stage.
  • Prepare board- and sponsor-ready reports, collaborate with FP&A on variance analysis, and manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.

Rebuild & Transformation

  • Re-architect the accounting foundations from first principles to achieve full US GAAP compliance.
  • Partner with the CFO to select and implement a modern, AI-native ERP system, leading design, data migration, testing, and go-live.
  • Re-engineer close, reporting, and controls processes to be scalable, automated, and audit-ready.
  • Lead change management initiatives across finance and related functions such as revenue operations, billing, and product.

AI-First Operating Model

  • Build accounting operations centered on automation, including close automation, reconciliation, anomaly detection, and AI-assisted reporting and analysis.
  • Design a lean, senior team where experts focus on judgment and impact while AI handles manual tasks.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging finance AI tools consistent with an AI-embedded philosophy.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop an established accounting team, reshaping structure and ownership as the operating model evolves.
  • Establish a culture of clear processes, strong documentation, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Experience at a top-tier global accounting firm (Big Four) with exposure to multi-entity consolidations, multi-currency environments, and US GAAP.
  • CPA certification or equivalent international qualification (e.g., ACCA, CA).
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including roles as Controller or Assistant Controller.
  • Deep technical accounting expertise in ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 350 (goodwill and intangibles), ASC 830 (multi-currency), and ASC 805 (business combinations), including judgment on emerging areas such as crypto payment accounting under ASU 2023-08.
  • Hands-on experience leading or significantly contributing to major ERP implementations.
  • Experience with high-volume, low-average contract value transaction flows (e-commerce, subscription, SaaS, or marketplace) is a strong plus.
  • Strong preference for candidates who enjoy designing systems from first principles rather than maintaining legacy processes.
  • Proven track record in transformation and change leadership, including process redesign, system implementation, and team development.
  • Demonstrated AI-native mindset with real experience automating finance workflows and leveraging AI in close, reporting, and controls.
  • Comfort with audit rigor appropriate for larger or public companies, with the judgment to scale controls appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building finance organizations with a focus on automation and AI integration.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional change management initiatives.

  • Potential equity participation in a company entering a new growth phase.
