FM CHEMISTRY: CONTROLLER

Overview

An international family business specializing in polymer and chemistry engineering, founded in 1984, is seeking an experienced and versatile Controller. The organization has offices in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and is currently establishing a small Asia office or remote team to handle back-office and accounting operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full set of accounts for all entities, including Hong Kong and international operations.
• Collaborate with internal bookkeepers and external accountants to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for local authorities, banks, credit departments, and management.
• Overhaul and implement accounting, business control, and compliance systems and protocols.
• Guide and monitor the work of bookkeepers (1 FTE divided between junior and senior roles, not based in Hong Kong).
• Monitor payables and receivables to ensure proper timing before and after cash flows.
• Improve information flow between departments to support smooth operations.
• Conduct business control tasks such as cost analysis, customer/product profitability tracking, cash flow optimization, cost reduction, and timely management reporting.
• Occasionally assist with tender bids and equipment investment calculations.

Requirements

• Degree in Finance or Accounting.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as an accountant or controller.
• Experience in structured and systematic design and implementation of accounting systems.
• Fluent in English (all work conducted in English).
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
• Assertive communicator capable of giving and receiving direct feedback.
• Comfortable working with highly diverse, cross-cultural teams across different time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with multiple tax and accounting jurisdictions.
• Ability to work remotely with flexible hours, accommodating significant working time commitments.
