Overview

This Interim Tax Manager role provides leadership and oversight of tax operations on a contract basis, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations during periods of transition or increased demand. Responsibilities include tax planning, preparation, and filing, along with process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

The schedule is sporadic and fluctuating, based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns
  • Oversee tax planning and compliance activities
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to support organizational decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Coordinate and support tax audits and responses to tax authorities
  • Prepare and review tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance tax efficiency and accuracy
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation
  • Communicate tax information and recommendations to organizational leadership
  • Support transition and training for incoming tax leadership
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting (preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive tax experience (required)
  • Two (2) or more years in a tax management role (required)
  • Experience in public accounting or professional services (preferred)
  • Experience with interim or contract tax assignments (preferred)
  • CPA (required)

Required Skills & Tools

  • Proficiency in tax preparation and research software (e.g., CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters, GoSystem) (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required)

Compensation & Benefits

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

Hourly pay ranges:

  • National Range: $75.00/hr - $105.00/hr
  • Maryland Range: $75.00/hr - $105.00/hr
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $75.00/hr - $105.00/hr

Benefits may be subject to eligibility requirements.

Location

Maryland and NYC/Long Island/Westchester are included in the stated hourly ranges. (Exact assignment location is not specified.)
